Our music school is looking for enthusiastic, creative, and engaging music instructors to lead group music programs for children in community and educational settings.
This is an exciting opportunity for instructors who enjoy working with groups and want to create a fun, interactive, and engaging introduction to music for young learners.
About the Program
This is not a traditional one-on-one lesson program. Instructors will lead an interactive group music experience introducing students to a variety of musical concepts and activities, which may include:
- Music theory and foundational concepts
- Rhythm, movement, and musical activities
- Music history, composers, and genres
- Instruments and musical exploration
- Singing and songwriting
- Keyboard activities
- Musical games and challenges
- Group music-making and collaboration
Students may vary in age, musical experience, and ability, so instructors should be comfortable adapting activities to meet the needs of the group. General Program Structure The program will generally include a combination of:
- Welcome activities, warm-ups, rhythm and movement
- Music theory and foundational concepts
- Music history, composers, genres and instruments
- Singing, songwriting and/or keyboard activities
- Musical games, challenges and group activities
The program structure is intended as a general framework rather than a strict lesson plan. Instructors are encouraged to use their creativity and adapt activities based on the students' ages, abilities, interests and level of engagement.
What You'll Do
As a Group Music Instructor, you will:
- Prepare and lead engaging weekly group classes
- Select appropriate songs, games and musical activities
- Introduce students to music theory, history and foundational concepts
- Use a keyboard for demonstrations and activities
- Adapt activities for different ages and ability levels
- Encourage participation, confidence and teamwork
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Help students work toward a final group activity or performance
Requirements Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in music, music education, education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous music teaching experience is required
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument
- Experience working with children or youth in a teaching or group setting is strongly preferred
- Strong communication, organization and classroom management skills
- Ability to lead engaging and interactive group activities
- Ability to adapt instruction to different ages, abilities and levels of musical experience
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check is required
- Letter of recommendation is required as part of the application
- Reliable, professional and prepared for each session

Weekly Preparation
Instructors are expected to review the upcoming week's objectives and prepare appropriate songs, games, activities and materials in advance.
