Schedule: Tuesdays, 8:15 PM–9:30 PM

Program Period: September 2026 – March 2027

Position: Contract

Compensation: $21.00 per hour

About the ProgramThe British Columbia Team Handball Federation (BCTHF) is expanding youth handball opportunities across British Columbia and is looking for an enthusiastic and responsible Youth Handball Instructor to lead our youth program in New Westminster.

The program introduces children ages 10–14 to handball in a fun, secure, inclusive, and positive environment. Participants may have little or no previous handball experience, so the instructor should be comfortable working with beginners and helping young athletes develop fundamental skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging weekly handball sessions for youth ages 10–14.
- Teach fundamental handball skills, including passing, catching, shooting, dribbling, footwork, and movement.
- Introduce basic attacking, defensive, and game concepts.
- Create fun drills, activities, and small-sided games.
- Encourage teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and fair play.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for all participants.
- Adapt activities to accommodate different ages and skill levels.
- Set up and organize equipment before and after each session.
- Communicate professionally with parents/guardians when required.
- Track attendance and report any incidents or concerns to the program coordinator.
- Support BCTHF initiatives to grow youth handball in New Westminster and throughout British Columbia.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequired
- Experience working with children or youth in a sports, recreation, education, or community setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a group of children.




- Ability to demonstrate or learn basic handball skills.
- Dependable, punctual, professional, and responsible.
- Commitment to participant safety and inclusion.
- Ability to obtain the required background screening for working with youth in British Columbia.

Preferred
- Handball playing or coaching experience.
- NCCP or other recognized coaching certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience working with beginner athletes.
- Experience coaching other team sports.

Handball experience is an asset, but candidates with experience in other team sports and a strong interest in learning handball are encouraged to apply. Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is:

Compensation$21.00 per hour The position involves one weekly session on Tuesdays, with potential opportunities for additional coaching, clinics, camps, tournaments, and future youth programs.
