Job Posting – Part Time Handyman - Toronto/Vaughan

LOCATION: 1-7941 Jane St, Concord, ON, L4K 4L6 / 532 Evans Ave, Etobicoke, ON, M8W 2V4

WHO WE ARE

At our core, we are driven by a simple mission: to offer top-notch products at unbeatable prices. Recognizing the fundamental importance of choice in hockey gear, we take immense pride in being a family-run business that offers one of the most extensive selections of sticks, gear, and accessories worldwide, catering to various price points.

We achieve this by sourcing products directly from professional teams and the manufacturers. Our unwavering focus is on delivering the best 'bang for your buck', as evidenced by our Pro Stock and Pro Blackout lineups, industry closeouts, and even used and refurbished gear. Lots of products we bring in are hard to find and manage, but instead of shying away, we go 'diggin in the corners'. Just like in hockey, we think there’s a place for grinders in the equipment industry.

By prioritizing the needs and desires of hockey families, this father and sons team which began by fixing broken sticks in the basement, has grown to include many other likeminded hockey people and garnered tremendous support from the hockey community. We remain rooted in our humble beginnings, and relentless in our commitment to making hockey accessible to all, regardless of financial means, though our new Vaughan location sets us up to reach the next level.

WHO YOU ARE

You are a reliable, experienced, and hands-on individual who takes pride in doing things properly. You have a broad range of handyman skills and are comfortable taking on jobs, minor repairs, and general improvements around our Toronto and Vaughan locations. You are resourceful, able to assess a job and determine what is required, and can work independently with minimal supervision.

You likely have your own handyman, contracting, or maintenance business, or are an experienced tradesperson looking for additional flexible work. You are comfortable with work being provided on an inconsistent, as-needed basis and can fit HSM projects around your other commitments. You are dependable, communicate clearly, and can be trusted to complete jobs safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. An interest in hockey and HockeyStickMan would be a bonus, but is not required.

THE ROLE

You will provide general handyman, repair,

and maintenance support across HockeyStickMan’s Toronto and Vaughan locations on a part time, as-needed basis. Projects will vary depending on the needs of the business and may include drywall repair, painting, installing fixtures, building and modifying stick racks, shelving and displays, trim work, minor repairs, and other general improvements to our retail, warehouse, and office spaces.

This is not a position with consistent weekly hours. Instead, we are looking to build a long-term relationship with someone we can rely on as projects and maintenance needs arise. Work may range from smaller repairs lasting a few hours to larger projects requiring multiple days. We will work with you to schedule projects around your existing commitments whenever possible.

As a growing small business, our spaces are constantly changing and improving. The successful candidate will be someone we can give a project to, trust to determine what is required, communicate any issues or material needs, and complete the work safely and to a high standard.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Complete a wide variety of general repairs, maintenance, and improvement projects at our Toronto and Vaughan locations
- Perform work including drywall, painting, trim and finishing work, installing fixtures, shelving and displays, and other general handyman tasks
- Build, install, modify, and repair custom retail and warehouse fixtures such as stick racks, storage solutions, workspaces, and product displays
- Assess projects, determine the appropriate materials and approach, and communicate any concerns or recommendations before proceeding
- Source and purchase the materials and supplies required for each project, billing HSM for approved materials and expenses
- Provide your own standard tools and equipment required to complete typical handyman work
- Identify maintenance issues or potential improvements while onsite and bring them to the attention of HSM management
- Coordinate with HSM staff to schedule work with minimal disruption to retail, warehouse, and office operations

- Keep work areas clean and organized and complete all work safely and to a qualified standard
- Be available on a flexible, as-needed basis for projects ranging from small repairs to larger multi-day jobs

- A broad range of practical skills including drywall, painting, carpentry, trim work, and installing fixtures, shelving, and displays

- A reliable vehicle and the ability to source, purchase, and transport materials and supplies as required

- Reliability and good communication, including the ability to provide realistic timelines and communicate when the scope of a project changes
- Flexibility to take on work on an inconsistent, as-needed basis at both our Toronto and Vaughan locations
- A practical, resourceful approach and willingness to take on a wide variety of projects
- An interest in hockey and HockeyStickMan is an asset, but certainly not required

WHAT YOU’LL GET

- Flexible, part-time work that can be scheduled around your existing business, projects, or other commitments
- A wide variety of projects across our Toronto and Vaughan retail, warehouse, and office locations; workload will vary, but is expected to be 15+ hours per week in the short term as we work though several projects
