Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources (Manager), the Human Resources Coordinator (Coordinator) assists the Manager on all Human Resources (HR) activities within the department of Environment. This position provides ongoing advice and support to all departmental staff and central agencies in administrating staff recruitment, staff training and development, employee relations and disciplinary matters, HR reporting and on-going performance management initiatives. The Coordinator plays an integral part in the implementation and monitoring of the departmental Inuit Employment Plan (IEP).

Working with the Manager, the Coordinator will develop, implement, monitor and evaluate comprehensive training, HR planning and leadership programs as well as provide technical guidance and policy advice to all divisions of the department in the areas of human resources development and staff training.

This position participates in departmental and interdepartmental projects, internal policy development and provides advice and assistance to Senior Management in developing specific job competencies, revising job descriptions and other HR functions, including performance management. The Coordinator provides HR expertise to Departmental/Regional Office managers on the correct interpretation and application of HR legislation and consults with employees on leave and attendance issues and payroll transactions.

The Coordinator oversees and/or provides HR support,



services and assigned training programs to client managers in a wide range of HR areas including, but not limited to, recruitment and hiring processes; staff movement and payroll transactions (e.g., transfers, terminations, acting assignments); time and absence administration;

development; the handling of disciplinary cases and labor relations issues, and audits/reviews of HR information. Ensuring that all employee working files are kept up to date. Other responsibilities include; ensuring that accurate training records are maintained in the department; advising employees and management on appropriate training courses and opportunities; providing mentorship and counselling for individuals as necessary; oversees and enters HR data into various HR systems, databases, and spreadsheets; conducts or participates in research, studies, or assignments regarding a wide range of HR issues, trends, and developments; and oversees and/or creates and maintains a wide range of complete, accurate, confidential, and secure HR files in accordance with records management policy.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually attained through a college diploma in Human Resources Management, Labor or Industrial Relations, or a related field, from a recognized institution, plus a minimum of two (2) years of relevant Human Resources experience.

- Fluency in Inuktitut;

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
