HVAC Installer – Residential & CommercialPosition Summary

We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and safety-focused HVAC Installer to perform residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning installations. The installer is responsible for completing installations safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards while following applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, project drawings, and job-site requirements.

The ideal candidate takes pride in workmanship, can troubleshoot installation issues, works effectively independently and as part of a crew, and maintains a professional attitude when dealing with customers, contractors, supervisors, and other trades.

Key ResponsibilitiesHVAC Installation

- Install residential and commercial HVAC equipment, including:
- Furnaces
- Air conditioners
- Heat pumps
- Rooftop units
- Make-up air units
- Air handlers
- Fan coils
- HRVs/ERVs
- Exhaust and ventilation equipment
- Humidifiers and related accessories
- Thermostats and HVAC controls
- Remove and replace existing HVAC equipment when completing retrofit projects.
- Install equipment according to approved plans, manufacturer specifications, company standards, and applicable building and mechanical codes.
- Properly position, level, secure, and support HVAC equipment.

Sheet Metal & Ductwork
- Install supply and return-air ductwork, fittings, plenums, transitions, boots, grilles, registers, and diffusers.
- Measure, lay out, cut, assemble, and modify sheet-metal components as required.
- Install and properly seal duct connections to minimize air leakage.
- Install hangers, supports, vibration isolation, and related components.
- Complete clean and professional transitions between existing and new systems.

Refrigeration & Mechanical
- Install refrigerant piping between indoor and outdoor equipment.
- Properly support, insulate, and protect refrigeration lines.
- Pressure-test systems and check for leaks where qualified and permitted.
- Evacuate refrigeration systems and prepare equipment for commissioning where qualified.
- Install condensate drains, pumps, traps, and associated piping.
- Complete gas piping and connections where properly licensed/authorized.
- Coordinate electrical and controls requirements with electricians and other trades when required.

Start-Up & Commissioning
- Assist with or complete equipment start-up according to manufacturer requirements.
- Verify proper heating, cooling, airflow, drainage, thermostat, and control operation.
- Check installations for abnormal noise, vibration, leaks, or other deficiencies.
- Complete installation and start-up documentation accurately.
- Identify deficiencies before leaving the job site and communicate unresolved issues to the supervisor or project manager.

Residential Installation Responsibilities
- Protect customers' floors, walls, furniture, landscaping, and property while performing work.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the installation.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners regarding the work being completed.
- Minimize disruption to the customer's home.
- Review basic system operation, thermostat operation, filter locations,



and maintenance requirements with customers when required.
- Ensure the installation area is clean and presentable before leaving the property.
- Represent the company professionally at all times.

Commercial Installation Responsibilities
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and installation instructions.
- Coordinate work with general contractors, site supervisors, electricians, plumbers, controls contractors, and other trades.
- Install equipment and ductwork according to project drawings and site conditions.
- Identify conflicts between drawings and actual site conditions before proceeding with work that could create rework or additional costs.
- Follow project schedules and communicate potential delays immediately.
- Maintain professional job-site conduct and comply with site-specific safety requirements.
- Document deficiencies, changes, additional work, and site conditions as required.

The HVAC Installer must

- Follow company safety policies and applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Perform hazard assessments before beginning work when required.
- Use ladders, lifts, power tools, hand tools, and other equipment safely.
- Follow fall-protection procedures when working at heights.
- Follow proper procedures when working around electrical, gas, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, damaged equipment, and near misses.
- Maintain a clean job site to reduce trip, fall, and other hazards.
- Never bypass safety devices or procedures to complete a job faster.
- Stop work and notify a supervisor when conditions are unsafe.

Quality & Workmanship Standards The installer is expected to:
- Complete installations correctly the first time.
- Maintain clean, straight, properly supported, and professional-looking installations.
- Follow manufacturer installation requirements.
- Protect equipment from damage during transportation and installation.
- Verify work before considering an installation complete.
- Minimize callbacks caused by installation errors.
- Take responsibility for correcting deficiencies related to their workmanship.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in good condition.

Productivity & Job Management
- Arrive at the shop or job site on time and prepared to work.
- Review the scope of work before beginning an installation.
- Confirm required equipment, materials, fittings, and tools are available.
- Work efficiently while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Communicate material shortages, equipment problems, job-site issues, and potential delays promptly.
- Reduce unnecessary material waste and protect company property.




- Accurately complete job sheets, time records, equipment information, photos, and other required documentation.
- Keep company vehicles and work areas organized.

Customer Service & Professional Conduct
- Treat customers, coworkers, contractors, suppliers, and other trades respectfully.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with customers.
- Avoid inappropriate language or behavior on customer or commercial job sites.
- Do not make unauthorized promises regarding pricing, warranties, schedules, or additional work.
- Immediately communicate customer concerns or complaints to management.
- Respect customer property and job-site rules.

Required Qualifications
- Previous HVAC installation, sheet-metal, construction, or mechanical experience preferred.
- Knowledge of residential and/or commercial HVAC systems.
- Ability to safely use HVAC installation tools and equipment.
- Ability to read measurements accurately and perform basic trade calculations.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment installation manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Valid driver's licence and acceptable driving record where driving company vehicles is required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an installation crew.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and other trades.
- Required trade certifications, licences, and safety tickets must be maintained where applicable to the employee's assigned work.

Physical Requirements The position may require the employee to:
- Regularly lift and carry HVAC equipment, tools, and materials.
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, roofs, and elevated work platforms.
- Work in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, attics, basements, and other confined or restricted areas.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and stand for extended periods.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions.
- Safely perform physically demanding installation work throughout the workday.
