The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board offers a role as a Temporary Indigenous Student Counsellor for secondary students, running from September 2026 to June 2027. Help nurture Indigenous students' cultural and academic growth in this vital position. In your role as a 1.0 FTE Counsellor, you'll provide essential support and advocacy for Indigenous students, acting as a crucial link between the school and families.
Focused on facilitating a smooth transition for recent students, you will also help in developing essential life skills and ensuring emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being for students. Key Responsibilities:
- Support individual Indigenous students academically
- Liaise effectively with parents/guardians
- Help new Indigenous students transition successfully
- Teach life skills to promote well-being
- Advocate for cultural respect and empowerment Requirements:
- Education in human services, preferably Indigenous Studies
- Knowledge of First Nation cultures and histories
- Must identify as First Nation, Métis, or Inuit
- Experience in cultural counselling and SafeTALK
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills Make a meaningful impact on Indigenous student lives and provide support through cultural advocacy and academic assistance at TBCDSB.
