Professional Summary The Client is seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Control (I&C;) Systems Engineer IV to provide technical expertise and oversight for I&C; design across liquid and natural gas pipeline and facility assets. This position acts as a technical authority leading the design development and technical execution managed by third-party engineering firms and Main Automation Contractors (MACs). Serving as a critical interface between multidisciplinary teams—including Operations, Construction, SCADA, IT/OT Networks, and Enterprise Security—the successful candidate will ensure all I&C; scope aligns with corporate engineering standards, project budgets, and operational requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Engineering Design Leadership:
Lead and oversee the comprehensive design development of Instrumentation, Control Systems, Measurement, and IT/OT Communications scope for liquids pipeline, gas transmission, and midstream facility projects.
- Contractor &
- Vendor Management:
Direct and manage third-party engineering firms, Main Automation Contractors (MACs), and telecommunications providers to ensure project execution complies with technical, safety, and schedule metrics.
- Stakeholder Integration:
Collaborate cross-functionally with Electrical, Mechanical, Process, SCADA, Cybersecurity, and Operations teams to integrate technical requirements across the complete project lifecycle.
- Testing &
- Quality Assurance:
Plan, facilitate, and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), control system hazard assessments, control panel Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), software FAT, 3D model reviews, and field constructability evaluations.
- Site Engagement &
- Technical Guidance:
Provide direct site support during commissioning and startup phases, verifying field installation against design specifications, resolving technical issues,
and offering informal mentorship to engineering peers.
- Standards Compliance &
- Continuous Improvement:
Ensure fit-for-purpose designs compliant with regulatory requirements, industry codes, and safety standards, while integrating historical lessons learned to optimize asset reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Education &
- Credentials:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, Chemical, Process Control) or equivalent technical diploma (Engineering Technician/Technologist).
- Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering and project execution experience, with a heavy emphasis on industrial control systems design within the oil and gas sector (liquids, natural gas, LNG, or petrochemical facilities).
- Control Systems Expertise:
Demonstrated mastery in control panel design, cause-and-effect diagrams, shutdown logic, alarm management, control philosophies, I/O assignment, and industrial hardware platforms (e.g., Schneider, GE Rx3i, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix).
- Operational Capabilities:
Valid Driver’s License with a clean driver's abstract; eligibility for international travel to the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Certifications:
Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) credential.
- Project Management:
Project Management Qualified (PMP) certification or formal training in project management principles.
- EPCM &
- Client Experience:
Combined experience working within both engineering contractor (EPCM) and owner-operator/client environments.
