We are currently hiring seasonal Line Cooks for the autumn polar bear season (October and November).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Kitchen Operations and Food Quality
- Prepare, cook, assemble, and portion food according to established recipes, preparation methods, and presentation standards.
- Maintain consistency in food quality, portioning, timing, and presentation.
- Ensure food is prepared, held, stored, and served at appropriate temperatures.
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary work areas, utensils, equipment, and food storage areas.
- Follow established food safety, sanitation, allergen awareness, and cross-contamination prevention practices.
- Support opening, closing, station setup, and shift transition procedures as assigned.
- Monitor product quality and availability and communicate shortages, concerns, or operational issues to kitchen leadership.
- Support proper food rotation, labelling, dating, storage, and first-in-first-out (FIFO) practices.
- Minimize food waste through proper preparation, portioning, storage, and handling practices.
Line Cook Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute menu items during service while maintaining established quality, timing, portioning, and presentation standards.
- Set up, stock, and maintain assigned stations before and throughout service.
- Coordinate with other kitchen team members to support timely and consistent execution of orders.
- Maintain awareness of service flow and respond to changing operational priorities during busy periods.
- Communicate relevant product, station, and service information during shift transitions.
Teamwork and Organizational Culture
- Collaborate with and assist other members of the Frontiers North team to achieve organizational goals.
- Maintain open communication and cooperation with other staff to ensure a friendly, collaborative, and efficient working environment.
- Communicate with coworkers using approved messaging platforms, such as Slack and 7shifts, and established communication protocols.
- Assist in the training and support of recent hospitality team members including contributing to the development and maintenance of departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in cross training to strengthen teams, create more opportunities for advancement within the company, and create redundancies for periods of employee leaves and turnover.
- Actively participate in company meetings.

Workplace Safety and Health
- Comply with the Workplace Safety and Health Act, the Public Health Act, and all Frontiers North health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
- Attend all safety meetings as required.
Required Education, Certifications, And Experience
- Post-secondary education in culinary arts is an asset.
- 2+ years of culinary experience in a commercial kitchen.
- Valid Food Handlers certification.
- Valid driver’s licence is an asset.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Kitchen Operations and Food Preparation
- Strong understanding of commercial kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, portioning, and station setup.
- Ability to follow recipes, preparation methods, and production requirements accurately and consistently.
- Ability to maintain food quality, portioning, timing, and presentation standards.
- Ability to organize and prioritize assigned tasks to support kitchen readiness and service requirements.
Food Safety and Compliance
- Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and provincial health regulations.
- Ability to follow safe food handling, storage, labelling, dating, and first-in-first-out (FIFO) practices.
- Knowledge of allergen awareness and cross-contamination prevention practices.
- Ability to maintain clean, organized, and sanitary work areas, equipment, and utensils.
Communication and Teamwork
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English. Additional languages are considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate clearly with kitchen team members, supervisors, and managers in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team and provide support across different areas as operationally required.
- Ability to receive direction, feedback, and changing priorities professionally.
Organization, Problem Solving, and Adaptability
- Ability to manage time effectively and complete assigned preparation and service tasks within required timelines.
- Ability to adapt to changing production, service, and operational needs.
- Ability to identify product shortages, quality concerns, or operational issues and communicate them to kitchen leadership.
- Attention to detail when preparing, portioning, storing, and presenting food.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Work Environment
- This position is based in Churchill, Manitoba, a remote subarctic community only accessible by rail or plane.
- Working in a small subarctic community involves adapting to extreme weather conditions, including prolonged cold, snow, and wind.
- Access to goods and services may be limited compared to urban centres, and infrastructure can be affected by seasonal factors. Success in this environment requires flexibility, resilience, and an ability to plan for weather- and season-related impacts on daily operations.
- This position is set in a restaurant environment that is often fast paced, with exposure to noise, heat from kitchen equipment, wet or slippery floors,
congested service areas, and changing service demands.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work, including extended periods of standing, frequent movement throughout kitchen and service areas, and working in close proximity to coworkers in fast-paced conditions. Duties may include safely carrying and lifting items up to 50 pounds (22.68 kilograms), bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs, and navigating tight or congested spaces.
- Safe work practices must be consistently followed, including the use of slip-resistant footwear, proper lifting techniques, and ongoing situational awareness to support personal safety and the safety of others in the kitchen environment.
- This position requires the ability to work in close proximity to a variety of potential food allergens including, but not limited to citrus, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables, peanuts and other nuts and legumes, pork, poultry, beef, bison, shellfish/seafood, fish, and other meats.
- This position requires the ability to work in close proximity to a variety of cleaning chemicals including bleach and other sanitizers.
Fit-for-Duty
- Employees must be fit for work while on duty, including while performing work-related duties off-site. This includes being free from impairment due to substances like alcohol, cannabis, prescription medications or other drugs, as well as being in a suitable condition to handle the physical and psychological demands of the job.
- Employees are responsible for notifying their supervisor immediately if they are no longer fit for duty or if they observe a coworker who may not be fit for duty.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to work flexible hours and split shifts including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Overtime may be required during evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak seasons.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
