Hot Mess is a small neighbourhood sandwich shop in Toronto’s east end, serving sandwiches, salads, snacks and pantry goods with flavours inspired by our Polish and Trinidadian backgrounds.

We’re looking for a reliable, hard-working Line Cook to join our small kitchen team. This is a hands-on role in a quick-paced environment, so we’re looking for someone who is comfortable working independently, staying organized and jumping in wherever needed.

You’ll be responsible for prep, service and keeping your station clean and stocked, while helping us make sure every order that leaves the kitchen is consistent and up to our standards.

Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook menu items consistently according to our recipes and standards
- Complete daily prep including chopping, portioning, sauces, proteins and other ingredients
- Assemble sandwiches, salads and other menu items during service
- Keep your station clean, organized and properly stocked
- Follow proper food handling, storage and food safety procedures
- Help with receiving, rotating and organizing inventory
- Restock ingredients and supplies throughout the shift as needed




- Work closely with the rest of the team to keep service moving smoothly
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties
- Look after the counter when needed - punch in orders and serve guests at the counter

What We’re Looking For
- Previous kitchen or line cook experience is preferred
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of basic food preparation and kitchen safety
- Organized, dependable and able to manage your time well
- Able to follow recipes and maintain consistency
- Takes pride in keeping a clean and organized workspace
- A positive attitude and willingness to be part of a small, collaborative team
- Most importantly, someone who cares about making good food and doing things properly
