Position Title: Live-in Support Worker Position
Reports to: Service Coordinator
Location: Kamloops, BC
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential assistance to two individual within their own home and community. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the quality of life for individuals with diverse abilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to caregiving, desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others and the ability to provide support with behaviours.
Employment Type: Full-Time, 24-hour shifts; 3 days on, 3 days off.
Work Environment: The Support Worker will provide support in the individuals' home and community.
24-hour Shifts: This position is considered a "Live-In" position under the BC Employment Standards Act. Support Workers are not expected to be awake throughout the entire shift and are provided a staff room/bed to sleep in. However, if the individual required assistance overnight, the support worker would be expected to provide essential support when needed.
Compensation: IMLKS offers competitive wages and benefits, covers meals during shifts and mileage is reimbursed upon submission. IMLKS also offers training and development opportunities for its employees.
Other Perks: Down time; throughout the day when the individual is occupied with their activities.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- De-escalating crisis situations
- Remaining calm in stressful situations
- Setting boundaries and following Behavioural Support Plans
- Assist the supported individual with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide medication administration as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and preferences.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to the individual, fostering a positive workplace.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the living space of the supported individual
- Providing a safe and nurturing environment
- Presenting the individual in a positive and respectable manner
- Promoting independence
- Supporting the individual with leisure activities and other community involvement
- Document care provided and report any changes in Person Served conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care for Persons Served.
- Support individuals who may display anxious behaviours, including self‑harm gestures, yelling, or emotional distress in public settings.
- Assist individuals in exploring community spaces safely and respectfully, such as libraries, recreation centres, and public events.
- Help individuals maintain meaningful relationships with family members while upholding healthy boundaries.
- Encourage socially valued roles by supporting individuals to participate in community life, hobbies, and personal interests.
- Support individuals in making informed choices while ensuring their health and safety.
- Facilitate successful learning and new experiences through patience, structure, and positive reinforcement.

- Ability to remain patient, grounded, and supportive when individuals express excitement, fixation, or repetitive requests (e.g., persistent requests for coffee).
- Understanding of person‑centred values, including autonomy, dignity, and socially valued roles.
- Capacity to support emotional regulation and model calm behaviour during stressful or unpredictable moments.
- Ability to encourage meaningful participation in community and family life.
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities in a home care settings is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with supported individuals and their families.
- Valid First Aid Certificate Can be obtained during training period
- Valid Driver's License and safe driving history
- Safe, reliable vehicle that be used for work.
- Clear Criminal Record check under the Vulnerable Sector (processed by the Criminal Record Review Program once an offer of employment is accepted )
- Medical clearance form completed by a physician (to be completed within 45days of employment)
- TB test (to be completed within probationary period)
- Must be able to commit to the 24-hour shift rotation for a minimum of one year
- Must have a valid work permit,
PR or Canadian Citizenship as we cannot accommodate scheduling to comply with study permit restrictions
- Compassionate nature and a genuine desire to help others.
- Certification or training in crisis management, violence prevention, caregiving or other related fields is an asset but is not mandatory.
- Comfort supporting individuals with diverse needs simultaneously.
- Ability to uphold professional boundaries with both individuals and their family members.
- Willingness to support individuals in community settings, even when behaviours draw public attention.
- Commitment to fostering independence, dignity, and meaningful life experiences.
