Summary

We are currently hiring two LRT Horticultural Technicians to support a municipal contract within Calgary’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) corridor. This position focuses on manual vegetation control, backpack herbicide application, and general grounds maintenance in and around transit infrastructure. It is a seasonal position from May-October 2026.

Responsibilities

- Weed and grass trimming along LRT track and way using hand tools and mechanical trimmers
- Backpack herbicide mixing and application in rock ballast and defined treatment areas
- General vegetation control and site housekeeping
- Litter removal and cleanup within designated transit areas




- Use of blowers to clear debris following trimming activities
- Compliance with all safety, environmental, and municipal requirements
- Accurate completion of daily work and application records

All work is performed under the supervision of a Certified Alberta Landscape Pesticide Applicator, in accordance with provincial regulations

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 18 years of age
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods (10 hour shift)
- Physically capable of repetitive manual work
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Willingness to follow strict procedures and documentation requirements

Preferred / Assets

- Alberta Pesticide Authorized Assistant or Applicator certification is a valuable asset
- Experience with backpack spraying or landscape maintenance
- Familiarity with municipal or transit environments
- CSTS 2020 and Standard First Aid/CPR
- Groundskeeping, horticulture, or environmental background
