We’re looking for a reliable and customer-focused Lumber Yard & Warehouse Shipper/Receiver to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role that plays an important part in keeping our yard, warehouse, and receiving operations running safely and efficiently while providing a positive experience for our customers.
About the Role
As a Lumber Yard & Warehouse Shipper/Receiver, you’ll be responsible for receiving, unloading, inspecting, organizing, and moving lumber and building materials throughout the yard and warehouse. You’ll also work directly with customers to gather orders, load purchases, answer questions, and provide helpful, knowledgeable service.
This is a physically active role that requires robust attention to detail, safe material handling, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Experience operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment is an asset. Experience working safely in a lumber yard or building materials workplace is an asset.
What You’ll Do
- Receive, unload, inspect, and organize incoming lumber and building materials, verifying quantities, condition, and documentation against orders and invoices
- Safely load and unload customers, suppliers, and company vehicles using forklifts, pallet jacks, lumber carts, and other equipment
- Organize and maintain lumber, building materials, warehouse inventory, and storage areas so products are properly located, accessible, and ready for sale
- Assist customers with locating, selecting, gathering,
and safely loading lumber and building materials, including large or heavy items
- Move merchandise between receiving, warehouse, yard, and sales areas as required
- Restock lumber bins, sheds, and other inventory areas as materials are depleted
- Identify and report damaged goods, shortages, backorders, receiving discrepancies, and other inventory issues to management
- Assist with customer inquiries and product information requests in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard, warehouse, receiving, and storage area
- Support loss prevention by maintaining appropriate security of inventory and reporting concerns to management
- Follow all company policies, receiving procedures, and applicable provincial and federal workplace safety requirements
- Perform other duties and assignments as required by management
What We’re Looking For: The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, building materials, retail, or a similar environment is an asset
- Strong customer service and communication skills with a professional, team-oriented approach
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing physically demanding work, including lifting and moving heavy or bulky materials
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, lumber carts, saws, and other material-handling equipment. Forklift experience or certification is an asset
- Basic math skills for measuring and calculating quantities of lumber and building materials
- Strong attention to detail when receiving, verifying, organizing, and handling merchandise
- Safety-conscious, willing to learn, and committed to following established procedures and contributing to a positive team environment
