About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Structural Materials Manager to lead the planning, procurement, inventory management, and supply of structural steel and related materials for our manufacturing and construction operations.

The successful candidate will ensure that the right materials are available at the right time, in the right quantities, and at the right cost to support production and project schedules. This position will manage supplier relationships, steel purchasing, inventory levels, material forecasting, and supply-chain risk while working closely with Engineering, Detailing, Production, Project Management, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and execute procurement strategies for structural steel, plate, HSS, channels, angles, beams, connection materials, and related products.
- Manage relationships with steel mills, service centres, processors, distributors, and other strategic suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, payment terms, and delivery commitments.
- Forecast material requirements based on project schedules, production demand, and customer commitments.
- Coordinate material purchasing with project managers, production, detailing, and procurement teams.
- Monitor steel market conditions, pricing trends, tariffs, availability, and potential supply-chain disruptions.
- Establish appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess, obsolete, and slow-moving materials.
- Oversee receiving, material identification, storage, allocation, and inventory accuracy.
- Maintain complete material traceability and documentation.
- Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, pricing, responsiveness, and service.
- Identify and resolve material shortages before they affect production or project schedules.
- Lead regular inventory reviews,



cycle counts, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Develop and maintain purchasing and inventory procedures within the company's ERP/MRP system.
- Prepare material-cost analysis, forecasts, purchasing reports, and management dashboards.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, standardization, vendor consolidation, and process improvement.
- Work with Quality and Production teams to resolve material non-conformances and supplier issues.
- Ensure purchasing and material-management practices comply with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable Canadian standards.

Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in materials management, procurement, supply chain, or purchasing.
- Significant experience with structural steel, steel fabrication, metal manufacturing, construction, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated experience purchasing structural steel directly from mills, service centres, or major distributors.
- Strong understanding of steel products, specifications, grades, dimensions, availability, and lead times.
- Experience managing supplier negotiations and long-lead procurement.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, MRP/ERP systems, demand planning, and material forecasting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Power BI is an asset.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.




- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline is preferred.
- SCMP, CPP, or other relevant skilled designation is an asset.

Technical Knowledge Experience with one or more of the following would be considered an asset:
- Structural steel fabrication and manufacturing
- CSA and CISC standards
- Steel mill and service-centre purchasing
- Tekla PowerFab or similar fabrication-management software
- SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor, or other ERP/MRP platforms
- Steel pricing and commodity-market analysis
- Material traceability and quality documentation
- Project-based manufacturing environments

Pay: $64,218.83-$126,581.67 per year
