Join Our Team The Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples (CSSP) is an ethnolinguistic community-based organization dedicated to advancing health equity and social justice for Latin American and Spanish-speaking communities in Toronto and the GTA. We approach our work through trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive frameworks.

Through our Sexual Health Program, funded by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and aligned with Ontario’s HIV prevention and support priorities, we are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Bilingual (English/Spanish speaking) Mental Health Counsellor to join our team.

This full-time position is dedicated to supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and people living with or affected by HIV with a strong focus on supporting non-binary, cisgender, transgender, and gender-fluid clients within Spanish-speaking and Latin American communities. The role provides affirming, culturally relevant mental health support through individual and group counselling, outreach, partnerships, education, and navigating Canadian social services and other related resources.

What You’ll Do:

Reports to the Executive Directors. The candidate will work closely with the Sexual Health Coordinator to achieve the following:

- Deliver counselling to individuals who are 2SLGBTQIA+ and living with or affected by HIV, supporting issues related to trauma, identity, mental health, discrimination, stigma, and systemic exclusion.
- Provide individual support, facilitate peer support groups and workshops centering queer, trans, and HIV-related experiences in a culturally affirming and inclusive setting.
- Conduct intake assessments, develop collaborative care approaches and maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with professional standards.
- Create and deliver psychoeducational content focused on resilience, emotional wellbeing, sexuality,



gender identity, HIV-related stigma, and healthy relationships.
- Collaborate with internal CSSP teams (VAW, Harm Reduction, Legal, Settlement) and external 2SLGBTQIA+ and HIV/AIDS service providers to ensure holistic client support.
- Support clients in crisis situations with appropriate de-escalation, safety planning, and referrals.
- Participate in outreach, community events, and public education campaigns that promote inclusion, reduce stigma, and advance health equity for queer and HIV-affected Latin American communities.
- Contribute to program reporting and evaluation, including collecting and managing client service data with a high degree of accuracy, in alignment with CSSP’s obligations to the Ministry of Health and other funders.
- Stay current with best practices in queer-affirming and HIV-informed counselling and engage in regular professional development and reflective supervision.

Qualifications

- A bachelor’s degree in Psychology, or diploma in Counselling, or a related field such as Mental Health and Addictions or Health Sciences.
- A minimum of two years of counselling experience supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ and/or HIV-affected individuals. International experience is welcomed and will be considered alongside Canadian work experience.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English (spoken and written) is required.
- Deep understanding of the mental health needs of non-binary, trans, cisgender queer individuals, and people living with HIV,



especially within Latin American cultural contexts.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, harm reduction, and anti-racist practices.
- Experience working with clients navigating complex intersectional challenges, including stigma related to gender identity and expression, HIV status, sexual orientation, racialization, housing instability, and migration-related trauma.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario – CRPO or equivalent is considered an asset but is not required.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends based on client and program needs.

Compensation, Benefits

- Salary: $27.79/hour
- Contract terms: Permanent, 35 hours per week
