The START Psychiatry Day Hospital is inviting a dedicated Mental Health Therapist (MHT) to join our interdisciplinary team in providing compassionate, recovery oriented psychiatric rehabilitation services to older adults living with complex mental health, psychosocial, and co-occurring rehabilitation needs. The primary focus of the MHT role is to provide short-term, goal-directed case-management to an assigned caseload and to lead psychotherapeutic, psychoeducational, and/or skills-based groups. As a Mental Health Therapist (MHT) in our program, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of individual and group treatment modalities. Working both independently and as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist applies evidence informed and best practices in referral triage, intake and psychosocial assessments, mental health and risk assessments, safety planning, care coordination, referral to community programs and services, and discharge planning. This position reports to the Unit Manager and works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor.

Description:

As a Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of direct mental health clinical experience in comprehensive mental health assessment and use of psychotherapeutic interventions with Adults or Older Adults. Minimum 2 years leading psychoeducation and/or psychotherapy groups. Formal education and training in at least two of the following modalities: CBT, DBT, ACT, Interpersonal Therapy, Process Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing.

A 1-day course of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is required every 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience facilitating a variety of groups using psychotherapeutic/psychoeducational approaches. Proficient case management and goals-driven care. Demonstrated understanding of programs/services for older adults in housing, financial aid/benefits, recreation/leisure, and mental health and addictions supports and services. Understanding of Enduring Power of Attorney, Personal Directives, and decision-making capacity is an asset. Proficiency with Trauma-Informed therapy is considered an asset.
