Unit overview The Western Communications team provides strategic advice to university senior leadership, faculty, staff and teams of internal and external communications staff across Western in order to build the university’s brand on a local, national and global scale.
We're looking for a creative Motion Graphic Designer who can transform ideas into engaging visual experiences across digital, social, video, web, and print. This is an opportunity to bring creativity to life through modern graphic design, compelling animations, and interactive content that connects with audiences and strengthens one of Canada's leading universities.
Working alongside marketing and communications professionals, you'll create everything from dynamic social media campaigns, web graphics, digital advertisements, presentations, and print materials. Your work will help showcase Western's people, research, programs, and community while ensuring every project reflects our brand and delivers a consistent, engaging experience.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining traditional graphic design, layout, colour theory and typography with motion and animation to create content that captures attention in an increasingly digital world. Ideal candidate The ideal candidate will have a 3 year community college diploma in graphic design, visual arts, or a related discipline, along with experience in graphic, interactive and digital design, preferably within a complex or multi-stakeholder environment.
They are a creative and progressive motion graphic designer with an ability to bring out of the box solutions. They have a strong understanding of the latest graphic design software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After-Effects, Animate, Google Web Designer and Figma.
They bring a strong ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, excellent communication skills to effectively convey design processes, ideas, and solutions. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality. Experience supporting large brands, post-secondary institutions, or mission-driven organizations is considered an asset.

This is an 18 month temporary full time contract opportunity with a benefits package. The base salary will be $62,480 to $89,040 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.
