Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Night Shift Resident Care Worker (RCW) to provide overnight support to residents in a safe, respectful, and comfortable residential environment.
The Night Shift RCW is responsible for monitoring residents throughout the night, responding to residents’ needs, maintaining a safe and quiet environment, completing scheduled duties, dispensing medications as required, and documenting and reporting any concerns or changes in residents’ condition or behaviour.
The ideal candidate is dependable, attentive, calm in emergency situations, and comfortable working independently during overnight hours while maintaining effective communication with the care team.
Responsibilities
- Monitor residents throughout the night and ensure their safety and well-being.
- Conduct scheduled safety and wellness checks according to residence policies and individual care plans.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to residents who require assistance during the night.
- Provide companionship, reassurance, and emotional support when needed.
- Dispense medications accurately according to established care plans, medication records, and organizational protocols.
- Observe and promptly report changes in residents’ health, behaviour, mood, or overall well-being to the appropriate staff or supervisor.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
- Support residents with mobility and transfers when required, using proper and safe techniques.
- Assist residents with routine needs while promoting independence, dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Maintain a calm, quiet, and comfortable environment to support residents’ sleep and well-being.
- Complete required overnight documentation,
incident reports, communication logs, and shift notes accurately.
- Perform assigned light housekeeping duties, including maintaining cleanliness and safety in resident and common areas.
- Assist with basic meal or snack preparation when required.
- Complete assigned overnight tasks and prepare the residence for the incoming day shift.
- Communicate important information and outstanding concerns to the incoming staff during shift handover.
- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, resident care plans, confidentiality requirements, and health and safety standards.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in assisted living, supportive housing, residential care, nursing homes, home care, or a similar environment is preferred.
- Experience supporting seniors, individuals with disabilities, mental health needs, dementia, or other special needs is an asset.
- Knowledge of medication dispensing and secure medication practices is preferred.
- Strong observation and documentation skills.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout an overnight shift.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies or unexpected situations.
- Compassionate and respectful approach when working with residents.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to complete light housekeeping and basic food preparation duties.
- Must be reliable, punctual, patient, and attentive to detail.
- Caregiving, First Aid/CPR, medication-related, or other relevant training/certification is an asset.
Pay: $17.60-$18.00 per hour
