Overview

Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for a part-time lab instructor(s) in the Department of Biology. We are hiring to teach: Biology 1050L-FO1 & FO2 Lab for Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology

Course Description: An introduction to the chemical, cellular and molecular processes that enable organisms to be alive. The definition of life; the scientific method; the chemistry of life; the structure and functions of cells; photosynthesis and cellular respiration; cell division and sexual reproduction; the functions of nucleic acids and proteins; and biotechnology in agriculture and medicine. Lecture concepts are reinforced through hands-on exercises in laboratory sessions.

Note: Students who have taken Biology 1110 or Biology 1130 previously cannot take Biology 1050 for credit. An additional fee (see Miscellaneous Fees) is required for this course. The Part-Time Lab Instructor is expected to oversee and facilitate labs within BIOL1050, coordinate and organize teaching assistants for the labs, and work with other technicians to coordinate material for the course.

Responsibilities

- Work with course instructor and second technician to ensure consistency among labs with course material.
- Oversee and facilitate labs in BIOL 1050.
- Coordinate and organize teaching assistants for the lab.
- Work with other technicians to coordinate material for the course.

Qualifications

- A University degree in Biology is required.




- A MSc or PhD in Biology or a closely related discipline is preferred.
- Prior experience teaching similar content is highly preferred.
- Experience with online or alternative modes of course delivery is highly desired.
