Private Family Cook / Personal Chef
We are looking for a reliable, hygienic, and experienced private cook/personal chef to prepare fresh, healthy meals for a family of 10. This is a recurring position requiring multiple visits per week, with a strong preference for weekday evening dinner preparation.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, following provided recipes and meal plans, while also being able to create healthy, flavourful meals based on the family's dietary needs and preferences.
Responsibilities
- Prepare fresh weekday dinners in the family home.
- Cook meals that accommodate a variety of dietary considerations, including:
- Low-sodium meals
- Heart- and liver-conscious meals
- Anti-inflammatory ingredients and cooking methods
- Overall healthy, balanced meals
- Prepare larger batches of common meals when appropriate, rather than necessarily cooking an individual meal for all 10 family members.
- Meal prep lunches when requested.
- Breakfast preparation is not required.
- Follow recipes and meal instructions provided by the family.
- Be comfortable developing or adapting recipes independently when recipes are not provided.
- Prepare a variety of cuisines, with a preference for:
- Indian
- Japanese
- Chinese
- Simple, healthy meat and vegetable dishes
- Use fresh ingredients and appropriate cooking methods while minimizing excessive salt, unhealthy fats, and highly processed ingredients.
- Grocery shop for ingredients as needed and ensure the kitchen is adequately stocked.
- Maintain a very high standard of hygiene and food safety.
- Clean and organize the cooking area throughout and after meal preparation.
- Properly store and label leftovers and prepared food.
- Pay attention to food presentation and plating, particularly when meals are being served to the family or guests.
- Occasionally assist with dinner preparation and presentation when the family has guests over.
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and discreet presence in the home.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is
- Experienced in private-home cooking, personal chef work, catering, or a similar role.
- Knowledgeable about healthy cooking and dietary restrictions.
- Comfortable preparing low-sodium, anti-inflammatory, and nutrient-dense meals.
- Able to follow recipes precisely while also having the creativity to cook independently.
- Highly organized and dependable.
- Extremely clean and hygienic.
- Comfortable grocery shopping and selecting quality ingredients.
- Detail-oriented, particularly with food presentation.
- Comfortable cooking both individual meals and larger family-style batches.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable cooking for a large household and occasionally helping with meals when guests are present.
- Respectful of the family's home, privacy, routines, and preferences.
Schedule
- Multiple days per week
- Weekday evenings are the primary requirement.
- Dinner must be prepared fresh on weekday evenings.
- Additional meal-prep hours for lunches may be arranged as needed.
- Schedule and number of weekly visits can be discussed based on availability and the family's needs.
Food Style The family enjoys a variety of cuisines, particularly Indian, Japanese, and Chinese food, as well as simple meals featuring high-quality meats, poultry, vegetables, and other healthy ingredients. The focus is on food that is healthy, flavourful, fresh, well-balanced, and appropriately portioned, rather than restrictive or bland.
Important Requirements
Cleanliness and hygiene are extremely important for this position. The household has a helper who assists with general cleaning during the daytime; however, the cook is responsible for cleaning up after cooking and must leave the kitchen, counters, stovetop, sink, and cooking area clean, organized, and ready for the next day after every visit. The kitchen should be left looking as though it has not been used.
The successful candidate should also be comfortable receiving specific dietary instructions and recipes from the family while bringing their own cooking knowledge and creativity to the role.
Compensation will be discussed based on experience, qualifications, number of hours, and frequency of visits.
