Job Summary
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Policy
Coordinator has responsibility for policy management and tracking, and provides policy development support and expertise to teams within BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services. This includes ensuring policy management best practices are followed, facilitating policy reviews and approvals, and managing the BCMHSUS online policy manual.
The Policy
Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the completeness and comprehensiveness of BCMHSUS policies which are used by all staff in the organization.
Duties/Accountabilities
- Manages the BCMHSUS policy manual, tracking review and update activities, and ensuring consistency with the BCMHSUS policy framework.
- Provides policy development support and expertise to teams within BCMHSUS including assisting with drafts of new policies, seeking out relevant supporting information (eg: conducting literature searches), and revising existing policies, as required by policy drivers such as organizational changes, quality reviews, and legislation.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates innovative policy and related materials, taking into consideration the impact on healthcare outcomes.
- Facilitates policy reviews and approvals in accordance with the guidelines established in the BCMHSUS policy framework.
- Liaises with the PHSA Policy Management Office to reduce policy redundancy, and ensure consistency with PHSA policy management practices.
- Maintains the BCMHSUS online policy manual, and ensures policy updates are cascaded to all related policies. Routinely reviews policies to confirm currency of information and embedded links.
- Assists with organizational communications related to policy updates, including development of all-staff notices advising of policy changes, and development of a quarterly all-staff newsletter focused on recent policy updates and issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the Director, Planning, Performance Management & Research.
Qualifications: A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in health policy, social sciences or health-related sciences and at least three (3) year recent experience in related research/evaluation/planning in a healthcare organization. Experience in a mental health and substance use environment is preferred.
Leadership and Professional competencies include the ability to liaise with a wide variety of people including clinical teams, clients and other members of the Planning, Performance Management and Research team; and robust oral and written communication skills, including strong interviewing skills; demonstrated initiative; ability to work well in independently and under pressure; ability to apply academic knowledge to practical situations; well developed planning and organization skills, attention to details, and competency in word processing.
