As a Production Worker – Paint Touch-Up, you will support the production process by completing paint touch-ups, cosmetic repairs and related finishing work on new hydrovac trucks and large subassemblies. This position is primarily focused on identifying and correcting paint defects or damage throughout the production process and is not a full-time stationary position.
Work will include paint touch-ups, spot repairs, sanding, polishing, masking, surface preparation and small paint jobs. The position will also perform minor mechanical work when components must be removed or reinstalled to complete a paint repair.

Key Responsibility Areas
Paint Touch-Up and Repair
- Complete paint touch-ups and cosmetic repairs on recent hydrovac trucks and large subassemblies.
- Perform spot repairs and blend repaired areas into the surrounding finish.
- Sand, polish and refinish painted surfaces as required.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding and masking.
- Complete small paint jobs using the appropriate paint application equipment.
- Identify paint defects and determine the appropriate preparation and repair process.
- Use the small paint booth and sandblast cabinet when required.
- Inspect completed repairs to ensure they meet Tornado’s quality standards.
Production Support
- Work throughout Buildings 1, 2 and 3 based on production requirements.
- Complete assigned work using Tornado’s paint ticket system.
- Cover paint touch-ups within an assigned production area when required.
- Prioritize work based on production needs and direction from the Lead – Paint.
- Occasionally support Service or other departments with paint and finishing work.
- Communicate repair status, material requirements and concerns to the Lead – Paint.
- Maintain accurate records and update paint tickets as required.
Mechanical and Preparation Work
- Remove and reinstall components such as latches, valve blocks, brackets and hardware to access areas requiring paint repair.
- Perform minor mechanical work related to paint preparation and repair.
- Mask components and surrounding areas to protect them from overspray or damage.
- Use hand and power tools safely and proficiently.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Monitor and communicate stock requirements for paint supplies and consumables.
Safety
- Assess job risks, use required PPE and prioritize workplace safety.
- Follow all procedures for paint products, chemicals, respiratory protection and equipment use.
- Safely work on top of trucks, inside truck bodies and in other tight or confined spaces.
- Safely use ladders, rolling staircases and fall-protection equipment.
- Follow confined-space procedures when required.
- Maintain respirator fit testing and use the assigned respiratory protection.

Qualifications
Education
- Completion of a High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- Autobody, automotive paint, mechanical, construction or related training is an asset.
Experience
- Experience with automotive paint, autobody repair, industrial painting or paint touch-up is preferred.
- Experience with sanding, masking, polishing, surface preparation or spot repair is an asset.
- Mechanical, construction or manufacturing experience is considered applicable.
- Experience working around trucks, heavy equipment or industrial manufacturing is an asset.
- On-the-job training will be provided.
Working Conditions
- Work takes place throughout an industrial shop environment, primarily in Buildings 1, 2 and 3.
- The environment can be dusty, hot in summer and cold in winter due to open bay doors.
- Work may involve exposure to paint products, chemicals, dust, noise and powered equipment.
- Requires standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching and working in different positions for extended periods.
- Requires occasional work on top of trucks, inside truck bodies and in tight or confined spaces.
- Requires occasional use of ladders and rolling staircases.
- The employee must be able to complete required fall-protection and confined-space training.
- The employee must be able to pass a respirator fit test and wear the required respiratory protection.
- Personal Protective Equipment is required. CSA-approved safety footwear is provided by the employee, and all other required PPE is provided by the company.
