Trycewell Partners is supporting an established civil construction and industrial services company in the search for an experienced Project Manager to support projects across Western Canada.
This is a full time, project based position requiring regular travel and a rotational schedule, typically 14 days on and 7 days off or 10 days on and 4 days off. Candidates may be based anywhere in Western Canada.
The Project Manager will oversee projects from planning through closeout, with a strong focus on budgeting, forecasting, contracts, RFIs, change orders and client negotiations. Site Superintendents will manage daily field execution, while the Project Manager ensures projects remain financially successful, on schedule and compliant with contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage civil construction projects from planning through completion
- Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, schedules and resource plans
- Monitor costs, productivity and financial performance
- Manage contracts, RFIs, change orders and extra work documentation
- Work with the estimating team to price changes and additional scope
- Negotiate project matters with clients and stakeholders
- Ensure contractual requirements and project specifications are met
- Work closely with Site Superintendents and field leadership
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, procurement and equipment
- Identify and address commercial, contractual and operational risks
- Prepare project reports and provide updates to senior leadership
- Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project
- Manage one large project or several smaller projects, depending on workload
- Lead project closeout and financial reconciliation
- Travel to project sites and work rotational schedules
Qualifications
- At least five years of Project Manager experience in civil construction is preferred
- Progressive civil construction experience, ideally advancing through field operations or project coordination into project management
- Previous field experience is considered an asset
- Experience with heavy civil, mining, earthworks, underground utilities, pipelines, road construction or related infrastructure projects
- Direct experience with contracts, RFIs, change orders and client negotiations
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, cost control and project financial experience
- Experience working with Site Superintendents and field leadership
- Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities
- Strong communication, organization and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working in remote or project based environments is considered an asset
- Post secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is considered an asset
- P.Eng. designation or PMP certification is considered an asset
- Experience with HeavyJob and HeavyBid is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract
- Willingness to travel throughout Western Canada and work rotational schedules
- Ability to complete required drug and alcohol testing and site orientations
