Role Description The Project Manager – MHE & Mechanical Systems is a full time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC, responsible for leading mechanical and material handling equipment projects from planning through commissioning. This role oversees project scope, schedules, budgets, and quality standards, coordinating closely with engineering, field teams, fabricators, and logistics partners to ensure timely and accurate delivery of mechanical systems and components.

Day-to-day tasks include managing detailed project plans, directing expediting activities, monitoring inspections, and ensuring that BIM models, shop drawings, and prefabricated assemblies align with site conditions and design requirements.

The Project

Manager also conducts risk assessments, manages change orders, and maintains transparent communication with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support project transparency and performance. This position supports continuous improvement in safety, constructability, and process efficiency across multiple concurrent projects.

Key Job Responsibilities

- Own and manage the full lifecycle of MHE, automation, and mechanical system projects from planning through final handover.
- Develop project plans, schedules, milestones, budgets, resource requirements, and execution strategies.
- Partner with engineering, construction, operations, customers, contractors, and vendors to establish priorities and drive project execution.
- Lead the planning and implementation of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and automated systems.
- Coordinate equipment procurement, vendor deliverables, installation activities, testing, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Review and coordinate equipment layouts, technical specifications, drawings, functional requirements, and installation documentation.




- Participate in engineering and design reviews and provide project-level input on proposed solutions, system integration, constructability, and facility requirements.
- Coordinate with BIM and design teams to identify clashes, constructability issues, and installation conflicts.
- Manage project scope, schedule, cost, change orders, purchase orders, and vendor performance.
- Proactively identify project risks, dependencies, technical issues, and schedule constraints and develop mitigation plans.
- Lead project meetings, establish objectives, ensure the right stakeholders are involved, document decisions, and drive action-item completion.
- Provide clear and concise project status reports, risk assessments, financial updates, and mitigation plans to management and customers.
- Coordinate installation, QA/QC, safety inspections, testing, commissioning, and performance verification.
- Work directly with equipment vendors and contractors to resolve technical and execution issues.
- Troubleshoot project challenges and develop practical solutions to minimize delays and disruption.
- Ensure project deliverables meet applicable specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
- Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives that improve project delivery, engineering efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.
- Travel to project sites throughout Canada as required to support project execution and commissioning.

A Day in the Life

As a Project Manager, you may manage one or multiple projects that vary in scope, complexity, and duration.

Your day may include reviewing project progress, schedule, budget, resources, and risks; coordinating with engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and customers; and identifying barriers that could affect project delivery.

You may facilitate project planning and implementation meetings, ensuring alignment on objectives, expectations, responsibilities, and next steps. You will document key decisions and action items and ensure timely follow-up.

You may also review MHE and mechanical system layouts, technical specifications, BIM models, equipment documentation, and installation plans. During project execution, you will coordinate installation, integration, testing, safety qualification, commissioning, and performance verification.





When challenges arise, you will work with engineering, vendors, contractors, and field teams to develop practical solutions, mitigate project risks, and keep the project on schedule.

About the Team The Project Management team works closely with engineering, construction, procurement, vendors, and field operations to deliver complex MHE, automation, and mechanical system projects.

We work collaboratively to deliver safe, reliable, high-quality solutions while continuously improving our project delivery processes and technical capabilities.

The team supports projects through the full delivery lifecycle—from engineering and planning through procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience managing engineering, construction, automation, manufacturing, or industrial projects.
- Experience managing Material Handling Equipment (MHE) or automated systems.
- Experience managing third-party vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
- Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and change orders.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
- Strong understanding of project execution, equipment installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience with AutoCAD or other engineering/design software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel within Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

- PMP certification or equivalent project management experience.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related field.
- Experience with automated material handling systems, conveyors, sortation, storage systems, or warehouse automation.
- Experience with mechanical, HVAC, hydronic, or building systems.
- Experience with BIM, Revit, Navisworks, or similar technologies.
- Experience with commissioning, QA/QC, equipment qualification, and site acceptance testing.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with MS Project or other project scheduling tools.
- Strong understanding of project financial management and cost control.
- Experience working on large-scale commercial, industrial, institutional, or distribution projects.

Work Model & Travel

Work Model: Hybrid

Location: Vancouver, BC

Travel: Up to 30–40% within Canada, depending on project requirements.

Travel may occasionally involve extended site assignments during major installation, testing, or commissioning activities.
