Custom Energized Air (CEA) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) to join our growing Engineering team in Edmonton. This opportunity is ideal for a recent graduate or early‑career engineer looking to gain hands‑on experience across the full lifecycle of engineered industrial systems—from RFQ and design through fabrication, testing, and commissioning.

CEA is seeking a technically capable and highly motivated Quality Engineer-in-Training (Quality EIT) to support product quality, supplier quality, regulatory and standards compliance, and the continued development of CEA's Quality Management System.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Quality EIT will work closely with Engineering, Production, Procurement, Service, Sales, vendors, customers, and CEA's Quality function to ensure equipment and documentation meet applicable drawings, specifications, codes, standards, contractual requirements, and internal quality requirements.

This is a hands-on engineering and quality role. The successful candidate will work with both technical documentation and physical equipment throughout the manufacturing process—from design and procurement through fabrication, inspection, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and final documentation.

The position provides broad exposure to engineering, manufacturing, quality systems, customers, suppliers, and regulatory requirements and is intended to develop into a progressively more independent Quality Engineering role.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management System

- Support the completion, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of CEA's Quality Control Manual and Quality Management System.
- Develop, improve, implement, and maintain quality procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, inspection records, checklists, quality templates, and supporting documentation.
- Verify that documented quality processes accurately reflect CEA's operations and are being consistently followed.
- Support implementation and ongoing compliance with ISO 9001, and support applicable elements of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Perform internal quality reviews and audits and maintain objective evidence of compliance.
- Identify gaps between documented requirements and actual practices and coordinate corrective actions with affected departments.
- Support customer, supplier, third-party, regulatory, and certification-body audits and assessments (ie. ABSA CRN) as CEA’s primary point of contact.
- Support continual improvement of CEA's quality processes using lessons learned, NCR trends, audit findings, customer feedback, and operational experience.

Product & Manufacturing Quality

- Perform detailed quality reviews of CEA drawings, BOMs, shop files, manufacturing documentation, and equipment for completeness, consistency, manufacturability, dimensional requirements,

and compliance with documented project requirements.
- Review and interpret customer specifications, project requirements, codes, standards, and inspection requirements.
- Review CEA project documentation against applicable specifications and quality requirements.
- Verify CEA’s compliance with customer’s purchase-order requirements, specifications, drawings, codes, standards, and contractual requirements.
- Perform dimensional verification and tolerance stack-up studies to confirm fabricated components and assemblies meet functional and dimensional requirements.
- Conduct hands-on inspections of fabricated and assembled equipment, comparing completed work against drawings, specifications, BOMs, approved documentation, and inspection requirements.
- Identify deviations and potential non-conformances and escalate engineering design issues requiring professional engineering judgment to the responsible Professional Engineer.
- Support compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, including ASTM, ASME, API, CSA, and other project-specific requirements.
- Support material traceability, MTR review, NDE report review, welding documentation, inspection records, and other quality documentation as required.

Inspection & Testing

- Develop, review, coordinate, and execute Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Coordinate customer inspection hold points, witness points, and documentation requirements.
- Support and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), including readiness reviews, testing, deficiency identification, documentation, and closeout.
- Confirm inspection and testing documentation is complete and acceptable prior to equipment release.
- Coordinate resolution and documentation of deficiencies identified during inspection or FAT activities.

Supplier & Vendor Quality

- Perform Vendor Quality Control reviews, including review of vendor drawings, documentation, certificates, MTRs, inspection reports, NDE reports, and other required quality records.
- Verify vendor compliance with purchase-order requirements, specifications, drawings, codes, standards, and contractual requirements.
- Support receiving activities including vendor inspections, source inspections, and supplier-quality assessments where required.
- Identify supplier non-conformances and coordinate resolution with Procurement, Engineering, and vendors.
- Support supplier performance evaluation and improvement initiatives.

Customer Quality

- Review and respond to customer quality comments, deficiencies, non-conformances, and technical documentation requirements.
- Coordinate with Engineering and other departments to ensure customer quality requirements are understood and incorporated into project execution.
- Support customer inspections, FATs, audits, and quality meetings.
- Assist in resolving customer quality concerns professionally and in a timely manner.

Non-Conformance & Continuous Improvement

- Identify, document, investigate, and follow up on non-conformances (NCRs).
- Support disposition of non-conforming material and equipment in coordination with Engineering and other responsible personnel.
- Perform or facilitate structured root-cause analysis.
- Develop and track corrective and preventive actions to completion.
- Analyze recurring quality issues and recommend improvements to designs, standards, suppliers, manufacturing processes, inspection methods, or documentation.
- Promote a culture in which quality concerns are identified early, documented objectively, and resolved collaboratively.

Authority and Accountability The Quality EIT is expected to independently identify and document potential non-conformances and quality concerns. This includes maintaining data integrity in CEA’s CRM/ERP System for communication within and between departments. The position has authority to recommend or initiate a quality hold where equipment, material, documentation, or work appears inconsistent with approved requirements. Final disposition of engineering-related non-conformances requiring professional engineering judgment remains with the responsible Professional Engineer.

The Quality EIT is expected to challenge potential non-compliance professionally and objectively, regardless of the originating department, while working collaboratively toward resolution.
