THE WORK
We are a controls company. We wire, program and service the systems that run buildings and plants. That covers heating, cooling, refrigeration and lighting in large stores, machine and process controls in industrial plants, and water and wastewater treatment sites across the prairies.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Install and wire control panels, sensors, thermostats and field devices
- Read wiring diagrams, floor plans and control drawings, then build to them
- Run and terminate power and low voltage cable in buildings that are still in use
- Wire motor starters, drives, pumps and safety circuits
- Hook up and check instruments that read flow, level, pressure, temperature and water quality
- Set up and test the network wiring that ties controllers and PLCs together
- Load up controllers, check every point, and correct what does not read right
- Track down faults on heating, cooling, refrigeration, lighting and process equipment
- Work with the site's mechanical, refrigeration and operations people to sort out shared problems
- Mark up drawings and write clear service notes for each visit
- Deal with store managers, plant operators and site contacts in a calm, plain spoken way
- Keep your apprentice safe, busy and learning
WHAT YOU NEED
- Alberta Journeyman Electrician ticket with Red Seal endorsement
- Real experience with commercial building automation and HVAC controls
- Valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
- Able to pass a criminal record check plus drug and alcohol testing, since many of our customers require it
- Willing to work night and weekend shifts when a site cannot be shut down during store hours
- Willing to travel across southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, with overnight stays on some jobs
- Your own hand tools, meters and safety boots
- Able to work alone and make valuable calls when nobody is looking over your shoulder
HELPS YOUR CASE
- Experience with common controls networks and protocols such as BACnet or Modbus
- PLC and HMI work of any brand, from wiring and startup through to small program edits
- Time spent in water or wastewater plants, food plants, or other industrial sites
- Instrument hookup, calibration or loop checks
- Time spent on retail, grocery or warehouse sites
- Refrigeration rack or rooftop unit knowledge
- Startup, commissioning or troubleshooting on a service crew
- Current tickets for fall protection, aerial lift, first aid, CSTS or OSSA
SHIFT WORK AND TRAVEL This job is based in the Calgary area. Most weeks you will start and finish close to home. Potential for night and weekend work, usually in blocks rather than every week. We give you the schedule as early as we can. Travel time is paid, and we cover the truck, fuel, hotel and meals when you are out of town.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Wage based on your ticket and your controls experience, discussed openly at the interview
- Steady work backed by a long term service and install program, not one off jobs
- A mix of sites, from big box stores to plants and water treatment facilities
- Company vehicle, phone, laptop and tools for the job
- Paid training on the control systems and software you will use
- A small crew where your name is on the work and your input counts
Pay: $45.00-$49.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
