The Opportunity The Infrastructure Department is comprised of five Branches, including three Design and Construction Branches, the Wastewater Operations Branch, and the Water Operations Branch. Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; and the design and construction of the City’s infrastructure including treatment plants, pump stations, roads, sewers, watermains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers and reservoirs, etc.The Engineering Inspector position is responsible for prioritizing and conducting the day‑to‑day field oversight and inspection of Municipal infrastructure construction and renewal projects. This position ensures that construction work is completed in compliance with Contract Drawings and Contract Documents; Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications; infrastructure policy and design guidelines; applicable City standards, policies, procedures and by‑laws; and/or related legislation and regulations. This position receives, investigates, and advises on the course of action to remedy issues arising from inquiries, requests and/or complaints related to infrastructure construction projects and/or renewal projects. year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related disciplineCompletion of a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)Don’t meet the education credentials as outlined above but have years of directly related experience? Further information is available at Equivalency Code: DExperienceFour (4) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the positionDemonstrated experience in the field inspection of civil infrastructure projects including road works, bridge construction, watermain construction, storm construction, sanitary construction and pump stationsKnowledge/Skill/AbilityWorking knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Occupational Health and Safety Act; Municipal Act; Ontario Traffic Manual, Highway Traffic Act, OPS General Conditions, Fisheries Act, Migratory Bird Act, Environmental Protection Act, Clean Water ActWorking knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards, Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings, and City of Barrie StandardsDemonstrated ability to:build and maintain courteous, effective and cooperative relationships with City Staff, contractors, developers, consultants, utility companies, the general public and other stakeholderscommunicate effectively in written and verbal formmake sound decisions under tight timelines and high stress situations on construction sitespromote a high standard of public relations at all timesmaintain proper documentation and work recordsIntermediate skills include: Interpersonal, Organizational, Public RelationsBasic computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook and Word)Availability to work outside of scheduled work hours to perform standby, overtime,
