Qualifications
Project Management of a research study: The research coordinator will be responsible for managing a two-center international pilot trial evaluating the effectives of lemborexant to reduce the severity of insomnia in patients with epilepsy. The incumbent will be responsible for the following activities:
- Protocol updates and modifications.
- Planning project resources; coordinate and guide project planning and documentation including timelines, task lists and reporting.
- Development of standard operating procedures and training materials.
- Coordinating delivery of medications and blood samples.
- Data management activities including data collection, and collecting aggregate data from participating sites.
- Assisting with training research coordinators and students at both sites.
- Coordination of patient remuneration and focus groups.
- Purchase equipment for the study.
- Maintain the Metricwire online survey portal.
- Perform IT and any other repairs on equipment running PSG and EEG.
- Maintain an online database in SharePoint including project binder and data collection.
- Open dialogue with all study staff including study monitor and study funder.
- Troubleshoot current situations and engineer solutions to overcome problems.
- Assist with study set-up and implementation of study protocol in all participating sites.
Coordinating Research Studies; recruitment of eligible patients, data entry, administration of study procedures and/or training: The research coordinator will be responsible for the following activities:
- Recruiting participants into research studies and obtaining informed consent.
- Conducting study assessments which may include the administration of questionnaires
- Chart review.
- Data entry into the study database.
- Maintenance of a study recruitment log.
- Coordinating patient visits.
Assistance with manuscript preparation and grant submission:
- The research coordinator will assist with manuscript writing and preparation for submission to academic journals. They will also assist in submission of grant applications.
Preparation and submission of Research Ethic Board (REB):
- The research coordinator will be responsible for preparing and submitting applications, amendments or annual reports to REB’s and to other oversight committees as required in the nature of the research project. Typically, this will occur 1-3 times per year.
Communication with Principal Investigator and Attendance at Team Meetings:
- The research coordinator will report directly to the principal investigator. Keep members of the study team up to date on study progress, recruitment and identify any problems or barriers that have arisen.
Communication with Health Care staff in areas where the study is being conducted:
- This will include coordinating with clinical staff in order to organize participant visits and obtain relevant patient information for the research project.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
Key responsibilities
MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in biomedical engineering or a related study area, including laboratory analysis techniques. Currently pursuing or completion of Master's Degree in biomedical engineering is preferred.
OR
- Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with one years = directly-related experience.
OR
- High school completion with job-related options with a minimum of four years = directly-related experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in sleep & epilepsy is required.
- Previous experience with MetricWire is required.
- Previous experience with Natus is required.
- Previous experience with XLTEK EMU128 is required.
- Previous experience with Crystal PSG is required.
- Previous experience with designing and maintaining regulated air flow is required.
- Strong IT skills are required.
- Experience with terminal, Matlab and Python is required.
- Previous research experience is required, including obtaining informed consent, participant recruitment and data management activities.
- Previous experience in neurology research is a solid asset.
- Previous experience conducting regulatory clinical trials is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with preparing ethics submission, institutional impact, privacy and data access applications is a strong asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team-oriented environment is required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
- Excellent organization and time management skills are required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
