Appointment Details
The base salary range for Contract Lectures hired August 16, 2026 through August 15, 2027 is $79,644.07 to $101,855.82 per annum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Contract amounts are calculated based on the number of semester hours in the appointment.

Qualifications
General Qualifications for All Courses: A completed Master’s or PhD in Disability Studies (including disability, Deafhood, and/or madness) or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.
Demonstrated knowledge of Disability, Deaf, and Mad Studies as expansive and intersectional fields, with an understanding of how diverse experiences of disability/Deafhood/madness inform leadership, scholarship, and activist practice.
Expertise in relevant theoretical frameworks, which may include (but are not limited to): Indigenous Disability Studies, Black Disability Studies, Transnational Disability Studies, Southern Disability Studies, Postcolonial Theory, Decolonizing Methodologies, and Queer Disability Studies.
Strong alignment with the theoretical foundations and practice-based approaches of the School of Disability Studies.
A demonstrated commitment to community-engaged scholarship and community-connected research or practice.
Expertise rooted in both lived experience and scholarly inquiry that is relevant to the focus of the course.
Experience teaching at the university or college level, including the use of multiple teaching modalities and accessibility-centered approaches in both large and mid-sized lecture settings.
Demonstrated enthusiasm and skill in teaching undergraduate students in interdisciplinary and liberal arts contexts, particularly through the use of critical pedagogy.
Proficiency in using D2L (Desire2Learn) or a comparable online learning platform as part of an inclusive and accessible teaching environment.
Course Specific Qualifications:
A minimum of three (3) years of professional, advocacy, or community-based experience relevant to the communities and social movements aligned with the focus of the course.
Engagement in an intersectional field of scholarship and practice, with a solid understanding of the theoretical and practical orientations central to the School of Disability Studies.
Demonstrated familiarity with Disability Studies perspectives on social justice, activism, community-building, and organizing—particularly as they intersect with broader liberation movements.

Successful applicants (who have not already done so) shall be required as a condition of employment to validate their academic qualifications through the provision of original transcript(s) no later than six (6) weeks from the date of the original appointment. In the event a Contract Lecturer attains an enhanced academic credential the requirement and provisions of clause (e) above shall apply.

The School/Department will provide upon request to any applicant with CUPE experience a current relative seniority list, with instructors who have taught in the department within the last three academic years ranked according to seniority.

While applicants may submit Faculty/Course Survey results from Winter 2020 through to Winter 2023, these results will not be used as evidence of teaching effectiveness by the Contract Lecturer Appointment Committee due to the impact of COVID-19 on these semesters. A negative inference will not be drawn if FCS results are not submitted for these semesters. Alternate evidence of teaching effectiveness may be provided by the candidate for consideration by the CLAC.
