Job Title: Seasonal Maintenance Specialist Airside

Number of Vacancies: 3

Reports to: Manager, Airfield Services

Salary: Band 4 ($78,724 - $87,911)

Term position starting October 26, 2026 - mid/late April 2027

Closing Date: September 4, 2026

The Chance

Reporting to the Airfield Duty Manager, the Seasonal Maintenance Specialist Airside works a 24/7 rotational shift schedule throughout the winter season. The role is responsible for the day-to-day winter maintenance of the aerodrome, ensuring continuous operational readiness and compliance with Transport Canada regulations, airport policies and industry best practices. This position supports the safe takeoff, landing and movement of aircraft by maintaining airfield surfaces and infrastructure during winter operations.

The role focuses on snow and ice control, contaminant removal and surface-condition management across runways, taxiways, aprons, vehicle corridors and associated areas.

Responsibilities include:

- Perform preventative snow and ice control activities to minimize accumulation and maintain operational readiness
- Operate specialized winter maintenance equipment, including plows, sweepers, blowers, loaders, sanders and chemical applicators
- Remove snow, ice and other contaminants from runways, taxiways, aprons, roadways, vehicle corridors and other critical airfield infrastructure
- Apply mechanical and chemical treatments to maintain safe surface conditions and preserve braking performance




- Monitor airfield and weather conditions and respond to changing or adverse conditions by prioritizing maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures
- Identify and respond to surface hazards, equipment deficiencies and other immediate operational concerns
- Maintain radio communication and coordinate activities with the Airfield Duty Manager, air traffic controllers and other operational teams
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and support the readiness and safe operation of the airfield maintenance fleet
- Support airport emergency response operations by clearing and maintaining safe access routes and completing other assigned duties as required

Selection Criteria include:

- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Valid Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brake endorsement; a Class 1 licence is considered an asset
- Ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification (ROC-A)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a “D” Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (D/AVOP)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency operating heavy and specialized winter maintenance equipment
- Knowledge of winter airfield maintenance practices, including snow and ice control plans, procedures and techniques
- Understanding of applicable Transport Canada regulations, airport procedures and winter maintenance plans
- Knowledge of Transport Canada TP312, 5th Edition, Standards and Recommended Practices
- Knowledge of the safe handling and application of chemical de-icing and anti-icing agents
- Knowledge of equipment operation, preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs




- Sound judgment and the ability to make timely decisions in changing weather and operational conditions
- Strong situational awareness and the ability to safely operate equipment on active and inactive runways near aircraft, vehicles and other equipment
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to changing operational demands
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proven attendance, reliability and professionalism
- Physical ability to perform manual labour, including lifting, pushing or pulling up to 55 lbs., walking, shovelling snow or gravel, and working for extended periods in vehicle or equipment cabs
- Ability to work rotational shifts in a 24/7 environment and in adverse weather conditions, including extreme cold, wind, rain and snow
- Ability to respond to after-hours call-ins and remain at work during adverse or extreme weather conditions when operationally required
