Seed Plant Operator - Grain Handling & Maintenance
Location: Hepburn, Saskatchewan
Position: Full-Time
Wage: Competitive, based on experience
We are looking for a reliable, hard-working person to join our seed plant operation in Saskatchewan.
Please note Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA's) are not supported for this position, legal entitlement to work in Canada is required. Applicants need to be living in Saskatchewan.
Le John Farms is a fourth-generation family farm, and we grow, process and retail pedigreed seed. Our farm is located approximately 25 minutes north-west of Saskatoon and our seed cleaning facility is located north of Martensville, along Hwy 12.
This is a hands-on position involving grain handling, seed cleaning, equipment operation, maintenance, and general seed plant work. Some experience working around grain, seed cleaning equipment, farms, elevators, or similar operations would be preferred, but we are willing to consider the right person who is dependable, willing to learn, and takes pride in their work.
A major part of this job is maintaining variety purity and segregation. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of doing a job properly, keeping equipment and work areas clean, and paying attention to what grain or seed is being handled at all times.
Main Responsibilities
- Operate seed cleaning and grain handling equipment
- Move grain and seed around the yard using conveyors, augers, trucks, and other equipment
- Load and unload trucks and bins
- Set up, operate, monitor, and clean seed cleaning equipment
- Maintain proper segregation between different seed varieties and lots
- Thoroughly clean equipment between varieties when required
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on grain cleaners, conveyors, augers, trucks,
and related equipment
- Identify mechanical problems and help keep equipment operating properly
- Perform general yard and facility maintenance
- Keep the seed plant, equipment, and work areas clean and organized
- Follow safe operating procedures when working around machinery, grain, trucks, bins, and moving equipment
- Assist with welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications when required
- Help with other farm or seed plant duties as needed
What We Are Looking For Our biggest priorities are reliability, consistency, cleanliness, safety, and attention to detail.
The ideal person
- Shows up reliably and is ready to work
- Can work independently without needing constant supervision
- Takes pride in keeping equipment and work areas clean
- Pays close attention to seed varieties, lots, bins, and product segregation
- Works safely around machinery and moving equipment
- Has good mechanical aptitude and is comfortable working with tools
- Is willing to learn how seed cleaning equipment works
- Can troubleshoot basic mechanical problems
- Is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
- Can handle a physically active job
- Works well as part of a small team
Experience Some previous experience in one or more of the following would be preferred:
- Seed cleaning plants
- Grain elevators
- Grain handling
- Farming
- Feed mills
- Agricultural equipment
- Industrial or mechanical maintenance
Experience does not have to be specifically in a seed plant. Someone with good mechanical ability, grain-handling experience, and the right work ethic could be a valuable fit. Welding and fabrication experience would be considered an asset, but it is not the main requirement for the position.
Safety
Safety is a major priority in our operation. The successful applicant must be willing to follow safe work practices and take responsibility for working safely around grain handling equipment, conveyors, trucks, bins, electrical equipment, and moving machinery.
About the Position
This position would suit someone who enjoys hands-on work, machinery, agriculture, troubleshooting equipment, and seeing a job through from start to finish.
There is a lot of variety in the work. Some days may involve operating the seed cleaner, while others may involve moving grain, cleaning equipment, repairing a conveyor, servicing machinery, or preparing the plant for the next seed variety.
We are looking for someone who wants to become a dependable part of the operation rather than simply fill a short-term position.
To Apply
Please send a resume along with a short description of your previous work experience.
We would especially like to hear about any experience you have with:
- Grain or seed handling
- Farm or agricultural equipment
- Mechanical repairs
- Welding or fabrication
- Seed cleaning or grain processing
Closing date: Friday, September 11th, 2026. We appreciate the interest of all applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted following the closing date.
Pay: $25.00-$32.00 per hour
