About The Accessible Learning Services Department The Accessible Learning Services (ALS) department is guided by the social model of disability, which focuses on removing physical, social, and attitudinal barriers in the learning environment. It prioritizes learner-centered approaches and promotes inclusive, collaborative spaces where all students, especially those with disabilities, are empowered to participate fully.
The department actively works to reduce barriers, ensure clear communication, and facilitate equitable access to services. Through this model, the department fosters a proactive and empowering relationship with students, advocating for an inclusive educational experience.
ALS is located in the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC) offices which are open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM to meet the needs of our diverse student body.
About The Senior Accessible Learning Coordinator Role The Senior Accessible Learning Coordinator (SALC) is ALS's operational and system leadership hub, owning ALS standard operating procedures, core systems, as well as the team's learning and development plan. As functional lead for the Accessible Learning Coordinator team, the SALC distributes work, monitors workflows, coaches and mentors coordinators; and applies structured change management (e.g., PROSCI) to guide the team through new tools, workflows, and service models.
This work is grounded in the social model of disability — removing barriers so students with disabilities can participate fully — but its emphasis is on building the processes, systems, and staff capability that make consistent, high-quality service delivery possible at scale.
Working closely with the Manager,
Equitable Learning and the Accommodation Specialists, the SALC applies human-centered design and service blueprinting to improve how ALS delivers service, and maintains critical systems such as departmental scheduling tools and databases. The SALC also oversees data and analytics, producing regular and Ministry-mandated reports and monitoring service utilization, and carries a direct-service component, supporting learners through accommodation and funding processes and coordinating third-party accommodations.
Specific Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Leading service design efforts — engaged party mapping, journey mapping, service blueprinting — to co-create and continuously improve ALS service delivery.
- Developing, documenting, and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support consistent, scalable service and smooth onboarding.
- Leading learning and development for the ALS team: training plans, onboarding materials, and in-service sessions.
- Applying structured change management (e.g., PROSCI) to guide the team through new tools, workflows, and service models.
- Owning and optimizing core operational systems (e.g., Clockwork, Accommodate) as system lead, including data integrity, system updates/migrations, and staff training.
- Overseeing departmental data and analytics, Ministry-mandated reporting, and service utilization monitoring.
- Distributing work, monitoring workflows, and coaching/mentoring the Accessible Learning Coordinator team.
- Delivering direct support to learners through intake interviews, interim accommodations, funding navigation, and coordination of third-party supports.
- Coordinating team schedules, vacation calendars, and team meetings.
