Who we are

ORIGNIX is a specialist advisory and delivery firm at the convergence of cybersecurity, physical security, information technology, operational technology, and engineered systems. We help organizations understand complex risk, strengthen resilience, and deliver the security, technology and infrastructure programs their critical operations depend on.

What you will do

You will join our engagement team in Calgary and own detailed solution design across complex enterprise environments, spanning cloud, identity, workplace technology, networks, security, resilience, data, applications and the interfaces between them.

Much of this work describes a state that does not yet exist. You need to reason clearly about how an environment will operate under conditions nobody has seen yet, and then design for them.

The lead architect sets the architectural direction and holds the conceptual design. You turn that direction into a solution that can be approved, built and operated. You close the questions the conceptual design leaves open, produce the decisions and detailed designs that carry it forward, and stay with it through build, security review and operational handover.

The work is practical. When a question is raised, you are expected to answer it with a design.

You will work directly with the lead architect, enterprise security, platform, workplace and network teams, business leaders and delivery partners.

Your impact

- Design across the stack. Produce detailed logical and physical solution architecture across cloud, identity, workplace technology, networks, security, resilience, data, applications and integration. Understand the dependencies between them and design the solution as a whole.
- Write for approval. Produce decision summaries and design documents that a governance body can approve, a builder can build from, and a program lead can follow. Include the options considered, risks, costs, trade-offs and reasoning.
- Resolve. Take the open questions a conceptual design leaves behind and close them with a solution. Read what already exists before raising what is missing. Where a choice has to be made, make it, document it, and defend it.




- Secure by design. Work directly with enterprise security and anticipate what review will ask. Design the answer in rather than treating security as a gate at the end. Where the design must also be validated by a platform provider or external assessor, prepare it to that standard.
- Integrate. Design across system and organizational boundaries, where applications, identity, devices, data and connectivity must work together across multiple environments. Identify the dependencies that are not obvious from inside any one of them.
- Carry it through delivery. Own design changes during build, confirm that what is built matches what was designed, and hand over to operations with documentation they can run from.
- Choose on merit. Evaluate technology and patterns against what the design requires, the enterprise context and the constraints that matter. Be able to explain the reasoning and trade-offs behind the choice.

Your qualifications
- Proven experience producing detailed solution designs across complex enterprise environments, with depth in at least three domains such as cloud, identity, workplace technology, networks, security, resilience, data, applications or integration, and the ability to design across the boundaries between them
- Proven AWS architecture experience at enterprise scale, including multi-account environments, identity, security, networking and integration
- Ability to translate business, technical and non-functional requirements into design decisions, including security, resilience, performance, supportability and cost
- Experience designing for security and resilience, where the environment must hold up under adverse conditions rather than only under normal operation




- A security background sufficient to design with enterprise security and hold your own in a formal review
- A track record of writing decision documents and detailed designs that were approved and then built from by people other than you
- Ability to take an open question and return with a solution, on your own initiative and without waiting for it to be assigned
- The confidence to hold a well-reasoned position under challenge, and the judgment to recognize when the challenge is right
- Experience working alongside a lead or enterprise architect, taking conceptual direction and turning it into detailed design without needing it restated
- AWS skilled-level certification is preferred
- Experience in a complex or regulated industry is preferred

Who you will work with An established team where the program plan, the architectural direction and the requirements each have a named owner. Yours is the seat where the design gets finished.

We work closely with our clients and their teams, sharing knowledge and building capability as we go. Our aim is to leave the organization stronger and able to carry the work forward after the engagement ends.

Practicalities

This role is based in Calgary and requires regular on-site presence. Candidates must be located in Calgary.

This position supports engagements that require background and security screening, which you would need to complete before starting.
