Acknowledging that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for the following clinical nursing instructor opportunity:

The successful candidate will provide direct clinical supervision to undergraduate nursing students in medical-surgical health settings at Kings County Memorial Hospital. Direct clinical supervision of students will be required in the UPEI Faculty of Learning Resource Centre, primary health care settings, long-term care, and community settings located in Queens and Kings Counties as needed.

This appointment is subject to final budget approval.

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island offers the only undergraduate and graduate programs for the nursing profession in the province.



The Faculty of Nursing plays an important role in nursing education to support the local and national health system by developing nurse leaders grounded in the philosophy of Primary Health Care.

In addition to providing evidence-informed education, we strongly believe in providing opportunities for all Faculty, staff, and students to participate in research and scholarship. Nursing education researchers study how students best learn nursing skills and investigate diverse topics such as health outcomes and improvements to the quality of healthcare services.

There is a need to reflect and embed within the curriculum and pedagogy new ways of thinking and being to reflect the changing health system and the importance of interprofessional learning and collaboration, diversity, and inclusivity. In addition, we honor and appropriately respond to the Calls to Action of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including fostering reflection related to decolonization and Indigenization to support recognition.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have earned a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN or BN) and have at least 3 years of full-time clinical experience. Recent experience in medical-surgical nursing is required.





Experience in providing clinical supervision of students (including preceptorships) or peer clinical education would be an asset. The Canadian Nurse Educators Institute (CNEI) Clinical Instructor Certificate course would be an asset. A master’s degree in nursing would be an asset.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Hours:

Full-time - 37.5 hours per week, days and evening shifts

Salary:

$49.59 to $54.11 per hour in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors and The University of Prince Edward Island Faculty Association Bargaining Unit #1.
