The Role

Lightspeed is seeking a Senior Director, Agentic Engineering to build and lead the platform, capabilities, and operating model that enable Product & Technology teams to work effectively with AI agents across the full product development lifecycle.

Reporting to the SVP, Engineering, this is a foundational leadership role with company-wide impact. You will turn rapidly evolving agentic technology into secure, reliable, and reusable capabilities that help teams discover, design, build, test, ship, and operate better products faster.

Success will be measured through adoption and sustained improvements in product quality, engineering velocity, developer experience, and business outcomes.

This role is based in the United States. Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Platform Leadership

- Define the multi-year vision, strategy, and roadmap for agentic engineering at Lightspeed.
- Translate business and product priorities into a platform investment plan.
- Build and lead teams responsible for shared agentic platform capabilities, including reusable agents, workflow orchestration, context and knowledge access, tool integrations, evaluation, observability, and governance.
- Create an extensible platform and paved-road experience that enables Product, Design, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to adopt agentic workflows without rebuilding core capabilities independently.

Product & Business Partnership
- Partner with Retail, Hospitality,



Payments, and platform leaders on high-value product development use cases.
- Launch agentic capabilities with early teams and scale proven patterns across Lightspeed.
- Drive adoption and change across a global organization by helping leaders redesign workflows and build team capabilities.
- Move teams from basic tool usage toward measurable operating-model improvements.

AI Governance & Operational Excellence
- Establish rigorous evaluation systems for agent performance, output quality, reliability, security, cost, and human oversight.
- Partner with Security, Privacy, Legal, Data, and Architecture leaders to embed responsible AI, access controls, data protection, auditability, and risk management into the platform.
- Establish standards, reusable patterns, ownership boundaries, enablement, support, and mechanisms for sharing learning across teams.

Performance & Organizational Leadership
- Own platform outcome metrics, including adoption, active usage, developer and product experience, cycle-time improvement, quality, reliability, cost efficiency, and business impact.
- Hire, coach, and develop a strong leadership and technical bench.
- Build an inclusive, high-performing organization with high standards for execution and continuous learning.

Qualifications

- Experience leading leaders and senior technical talent within a software engineering organization.




- Proven track record building high-performing teams through managers and staff-plus engineers.
- Experience defining and scaling internal platforms, developer platforms, shared engineering capabilities, or infrastructure products in complex, multi-product environments.
- Experience building or deploying AI-enabled and agentic systems, including model and tool orchestration, retrieval and context systems, evaluation frameworks, automation, observability, and human-in-the-loop controls.
- Strong experience partnering with senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, Security, Privacy, Legal, and business functions.
- Experience leading organizational change across distributed teams, including workflow redesign, enablement, communication, and adoption at scale.
- Strong understanding of architecture, engineering quality, operational resilience, responsible AI, security, and cost management.
- Excellent ability to communicate complex technical and strategic concepts to executives, technical leaders, and cross-functional teams.
- 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Compensation & Benefits Lightspeed expects the base salary for this position to be $300,000–$360,000 USD , depending on the candidate’s location. The role may also be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives.
