Senior Interior Designer
We are seeking an experienced and highly creative Senior Interior Designer to lead the design and delivery of sophisticated interior projects, with a strong focus on hotel and hospitality environments. The ideal candidate combines exceptional design sensibility with advanced technical knowledge, strong project leadership skills, and extensive experience working within the Canadian design and construction industry.
This role requires a designer who can successfully take projects from concept development through construction documentation and implementation, with particular expertise in AutoCAD, custom millwork, lighting design, material and finish selection, and colour development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead interior design projects from initial concept through design development, construction documentation, tender, and project completion.
- Develop innovative and functional design concepts for hotels, hospitality spaces, guest rooms, suites, lobbies, restaurants, lounges, and public areas.
- Produce and oversee detailed design drawings and construction documentation using AutoCAD.
- Design and detail custom millwork, cabinetry, built-ins, feature walls, reception desks, bars, vanities, wardrobes, and specialty furniture elements.
- Prepare comprehensive millwork drawings, elevations, sections, details, material specifications, and coordination packages.
- Develop sophisticated lighting concepts and lighting layouts, including decorative, architectural, ambient, accent, and task lighting.
- Coordinate lighting selections with electrical consultants, lighting suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
- Demonstrate advanced expertise in colour theory, creating refined and cohesive colour palettes appropriate to each project's concept, brand, materials, lighting conditions, and guest experience.
- Select and specify finishes, fabrics, flooring, wall coverings, furniture, fixtures, equipment, decorative lighting, hardware, and accessories.
- Prepare concept presentations, mood boards, finish palettes, material boards, and client presentations.
- Ensure design intent is maintained throughout all project phases.
- Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural,
and consultant drawings for design coordination.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, millworkers, lighting consultants, suppliers, purchasing teams, and other project partners.
- Review shop drawings, millwork submissions, finish samples, lighting samples, mock-ups, and other submittals.
- Conduct site visits, field reviews, deficiency reviews, and construction coordination as required.
- Resolve design and technical issues during construction while maintaining the overall design vision.
- Provide mentorship, technical direction, and design guidance to intermediate and junior designers.
- Manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables in a fast-paced professional workplace.
- Maintain awareness of Canadian building practices, accessibility requirements, applicable codes, construction standards, and industry expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7–10 years of professional interior design experience, including experience in a senior or project-lead capacity.
- Demonstrated Canadian work experience in interior design, architecture, hospitality design, or a closely related field.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating completed hotel and hospitality design projects.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, including the preparation of detailed construction drawings and interior design documentation.
- Extensive experience in custom millwork design and detailing, with a strong understanding of millwork construction, materials, hardware, finishes, and fabrication requirements.
- Proven experience developing and coordinating lighting design, including fixture selection, lighting layouts, decorative lighting, and integration with the overall interior concept.
- Exceptional understanding of colour theory and colour application, with the ability to develop sophisticated, balanced, and project-specific colour schemes.
- Strong knowledge of interior materials, finishes, furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, flooring, lighting, hardware, and FF&E.;
- Strong understanding of hospitality functionality, guest experience, durability requirements, operations, and brand standards.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings and coordinating with millworkers, contractors, suppliers, consultants, and fabricators.
- Excellent design presentation, communication, documentation, and client-facing skills.
- Strong organizational and project-management abilities with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on luxury, boutique, or branded hotel projects in Canada.
- Knowledge of Canadian building codes, accessibility standards, construction practices, and permitting processes.
- Experience with FF&E; specification, procurement coordination, and installation.
- Proficiency in additional design and presentation software such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Revit, Enscape, or similar visualization tools.
- Experience mentoring and reviewing the work of junior and intermediate interior designers.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with a recognized Canadian interior design association is considered an asset.

They are both a creative design leader and a technically proficient project professional, capable of developing compelling concepts while ensuring that the final built environment is functional, coordinated, constructible, and faithful to the original design vision.
Pay: $41,984.76-$95,549.17 per year
