Job#: 3047245 : Senior Mainframe Application Developer (MECH) Client: Top 5 Bank
Location: Downtown Toronto, ON
Hybrid/Onsite: Remote with flexibility hybrid
Engagement Type: 6-12 month contract-to-hire
Position Overview A financial-services organization is seeking senior Mainframe Application Developers to design, enhance, and support mission-critical core deposit systems.
Specific Functions of This Role:
- Lead projects through all SDLC stages, coaching more junior staff, ensuring BMO code standards are maintained
- Work on complex projects impacting core banking operations
- Provide senior level technical analysis and support for E2E project teams
- Support on-call as needed
Responsibilities
- Lead application work through all SDLC stages.
- Analyze existing systems and design appropriate solutions.
- Develop and enhance mainframe applications.
- Perform technical impact analysis.
- Support complex core-banking initiatives.
- Review code and maintain established development standards.
- Coach and mentor junior developers.
- Troubleshoot application and data-processing problems.
- Partner with quality engineering, operations, and production support.
- Participate in production support and on-call rotation as required.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of core banking processing, and mainframe
- 10 - 15+ years of system design, analysis and mainframe programming experience
- Extensive mainframe application development experience.
- Knowledge of assembler or PL1, CICS and DB2 are assets
- Core banking, deposits, payments, or transaction-processing experience.
- Strong system design and technical analysis capability.
- Experience with CICS and DB2.
- Experience working across the complete SDLC.
- Ability to troubleshoot online and batch-processing issues.
- Technical leadership and mentoring experience.
- Solid analytical skills for complex problem solving
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Assembler or PL/I.
- COBOL and JCL.
- Proprietary core banking systems.
- Production support.
- API integration or modernization initiatives.
- Large-scale financial transaction systems.
Success profile The ideal candidate remains highly hands-on, understands both code and business impact, and can lead delivery while developing less-experienced team members.
