Position Overview and Impact at the Studio:
A Senior Motion Designer at Public Address produces unique, original motion work with refined judgment and minimal oversight, driving both the concept and the craft of their projects. Beyond one-off animations, they build motion systems: the principles and behaviours that let a brand move consistently across every touchpoint and in the hands of other designers.
The impact is studio-wide. Motion moves from a service we deliver to a discipline we're known for: sharper work in pitches, richer systems for partners, and a team that thinks in movement from the first conversation rather than the last round. This is a hands-on role with a builder's mandate – you'll be animating every week, and shaping the discipline while you do it.
Key Responsibilities:
Motion & Brand Identity
- Extend project concepts through distinctive motion, and codify them into a system that holds the concept across contexts
- Build motion systems (principles, transitions, logo and identity behaviours) that scale across a brand
- Shape and refine strategy through your insights, including how a brand should behave in motion across its touchpoints
- Use pacing, timing, and sequencing to weave a project into a coherent narrative that supports the concept and brand strategy
- Identify new motion references and techniques, and synthesize them into insights that shape the brief
- Produce motion work that feels unique and original, with refined judgment across diverse creative contexts
Craft & Execution
- Produce technically error-free, optimized deliverables across every format and platform
- Master a range of motion tools and pick up new ones quickly
- Integrate emerging practices (ie. 3D, generative, code-based motion) into your work effectively
- Rarely miss details in your own work: frame timing, easing, continuity
- Balance expressive motion with brand consistency, platform, and performance constraints
- Balance creative opportunity with practical constraints without needing outside expertise
Building the Discipline
- Start current projects and structure files in line with existing systems, so others can pick them up seamlessly
- Make motion documentation (specs, guidelines, easing and timing references) a standard part of your process
- Act on opportunities to improve PA's motion processes, tooling, and offerings
- Contribute to the development of studio-owned motion assets and systems
Collaboration & Presence
- Confidently present your contributions externally, with team support
- Give feedback and creative direction that improves both the quality of the work and the skills of others
- Influence project direction through a strong internal voice, especially where motion shapes the outcome
Scope & Growth
- Contribute to defining project scopes alongside leads, including realistic motion timelines and deliverables
- Craft compelling visual and conceptual motion narratives for pitches
- Design motion solutions that measurably impact partner performance
- Propose relevant add-ons or follow-ups (motion toolkits, extended systems, templates) to partners
Experience & Expertise:
- Roughly 5+ years of motion and brand design experience in a studio or agency setting.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating self-sufficient work across concept, craft, and client presentation — including at least one brand motion system , not just isolated pieces.
- Fluency in After Effects and the studio's core toolset, plus depth in at least one adjacent area (Cinema 4D / Blender, Rive / Lottie, or code-based motion) and the ability to learn new tools as projects require.
- Ability to extend and impact the development of identity systems.
- Comfort presenting to and collaborating directly with clients.
- High level of empathy and emotional intelligence, with the ability to build trust and foster strong relationships with partners and colleagues
- A proactive mindset – seeking opportunities to improve processes and contribute to studio culture
- Strong understanding of and interest in branding, design, and cultural trends
- Experience with Notion or similar project management tools is a bonus
- Skills that reach beyond motion (3D, traditional graphic design, photography) is a bonus
