What you'll do: Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Senior Process Control Technologist is responsible for overseeing all activities performed by the Process Control Technologists related to the development, installation, repair and maintenance of plant control and automation systems. This role provides leadership and guidance for daily operations, including capital projects that involve the design and implementation of new or upgraded control systems. Their responsibilities encompass all plant control and instrumentation systems, such as batching software, PLC system, HMI packages, integrations with production databases, and specialized software solutions for data storage and manipulation.

This position coordinates and participates in 24-hour on-call rotation.

Main Duties Include:

Troubleshooting, Maintenance & Technical Support

- Lead advanced troubleshooting for control hardware, software, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, sensors, drives, and communication networks.
- Test, validate, and oversee the implementation of new or modified processes.
- Support start up, commissioning, and stabilization of new equipment and automation upgrades.

Instrumentation & Calibration Management

- Coordinate and verify calibration activities for plant instruments (scales, temperature devices, controllers, flow meters).
- Ensure calibration records, inspection logs, and measurement system documentation are accurate, complete, and retained.
- Maintain documentation for inspection, measuring, and control equipment.

Controls Design, Programming & System Development

- Design, develop, and install electrical and control systems for plant processes.
- Write and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, and data collection programs for extrusion, batching, product delivery, and operator interfaces.
- Lead the design and installation of retrofits and automation enhancements to existing systems.
- Oversee system testing, validation, and integration with production operations.

Data Analysis & Reporting

- Analyse process and equipment data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare clear,



actionable technical reports summarizing findings and recommendations.

Automation Advancement & Continuous Improvement

- Research and evaluate emerging technologies in controls, instrumentation, and automation.
- Recommend and implement solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and process capability.
- Provide technical leadership on automation and controls projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals.

Inventory, Procurement & Vendor Management

- Maintain inventory of process control equipment, automation components, and instrumentation supplies.
- Source materials, negotiate pricing, execute purchase orders, track deliveries, and approve invoices for applicable purchases.
- Liaise with vendors, contractors, and regulatory authorities to support project and operational needs.

Cross Functional Collaboration

- Work collaboratively with design engineers, operations engineers, maintenance, purchasing, and production teams to support plant reliability and automation initiatives.
- Partner with IT Management to set up, maintain, and support operational technology (OT) network infrastructure, including switches, servers, and software used in automation systems.

What you'll have:

- Diploma in Controls Engineering Technology.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Process Control Technology.
- Demonstrated capability in delegating responsibilities and assigning work tasks.
- Advanced training with HMI packaging such as Rockwell and Siemens.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Allen Bradley Logix systems, Inductive Automation – Ignition Platform, software applications.
- Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Suite; Visual Basic and PC Networking Technology an asset).
- Interpersonal skills.
