Reftek Systems is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Software/Firmware Developer to join our dynamic team in our Burnside, Nova Scotia headquarters. In this role, you will work closely with senior firmware and electrical engineers to design and develop software for our range of products. This is a hands-on experience with embedded systems, contributing to the development of innovative technology.

Key Responsibilities:
- Write clean, efficient, modular and well-documented code.
- Establish in conjunction with the team, appropriate work units, and see them through to completion (write, test, debug, document).
- Debug, test, and troubleshoot existing code to identify and resolve bugs.
- Develop and maintain unit tests to ensure the stability and reliability of code.
- Develop software to automate firmware testing.
- Contribute to the documentation of firmware/software designs, product features, development processes, and testing procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of experience developing firmware for embedded systems.
- 5 years of experience developing with C/C++ programming languages.
- Knowledge of network stack (TCP IP) programming, experience with bandwidth limited telemetry protocol design for edge environments preferred.
- Knowledge of general scripting languages (Python, Bash).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and associated methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, eager to learn new skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with microcontrollers and embedded systems hardware and real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Experience with debugging tools, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART etc).
- Knowledge of database programming.
- Knowledge of GUI design
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VirtualBox, Docker, Xen, etc).
