Job Title: Settlement Counselor– Arabic Language
Job Type: Part time (20 hours per week)
Duration: August 2026 to March 2027
Work Location: Mississauga
Position Summary The Settlement Counselor supports refugees and newcomers in their transition to life in Canada by providing culturally responsive settlement counseling, orientation, and engaging programming. The role involves facilitating access to community resources, coordinating recreational and leadership programs, and addressing barriers to social and economic participation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients with intake process, assess client needs and provide settlement and adaptation services to clients as required.
- Provide interpretation and translation to clients as required.
- Facilitate access by providing link between clients with specific settlement needs to available resources in the community, social services, professional services, and government programs.
- Do case advocacy on behalf of clients with institutions, landlords, etc. and assist clients in filing appeals and complaints.
- Conduct group and individual orientation and counselling on variety of settlement related topics such as, housing, education, transportation, employment etc.
- Do outreach to assess community needs, promote programs in the community and participate in networking and coalition building with other service providers, agencies, communities, organizations and institutions providing service to clients.
- Recruit and train volunteers to work in programs and to provide supervision as required.
- Maintain client records, program statistics, and reports and provide regular updates to the Executive Director / Settlement Manager / and funder as required.
- Assist with fundraising activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, case management sessions and committees.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience working with service providers serving newcomers (both overseas /outside of Canada and/or in Canada experience) an asset.
- Fluent in oral and written Arabic and English.
- Demonstrate understanding of and experience working with refugees with multiple barriers.
- Ability to and experience with facilitating group sessions.
- Understanding of case management and report writing skills.
- Post-secondary education in Social Work or two years experience working with refugees and newcomers.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, and occasionally on weekends.

Pay: $27.93 per hour
