About the Chance
WonderFil Specialty Threads is looking for an experienced sewist who is comfortable on camera to work with our marketing team on educational YouTube videos, sewing tutorials, product demonstrations, and other video content.
This is a freelance, project-based position with filming taking place at our Calgary office. We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys sewing, can explain what they're doing in a clear and approachable way, and is comfortable speaking naturally while working in front of a camera.
You do not need to be an influencer, content creator, or have an existing social media following. We're much more interested in your sewing knowledge, personality, communication skills, and ability to make sewing techniques easy and enjoyable to understand.
This would be a outstanding fit for an experienced sewist, sewing instructor, quilting educator, textile professional, or someone with a strong sewing background who enjoys teaching and sharing their knowledge.
What You'll Do
- Appear on camera in educational sewing videos, tutorials, product demonstrations, and other video content.
- Demonstrate sewing techniques, projects, tools, and specialty threads while explaining the process in a natural and engaging way.
- Work from video concepts, outlines, and talking points developed with our marketing team.
- Prepare and sew project samples as needed for filming.
- Learn about WonderFil's different thread lines and how they are used across various sewing applications.
- Help translate technical sewing information into content that is easy for viewers to understand.
- Provide input on sewing techniques, project ideas, and educational topics where appropriate.
- Participate in scheduled filming sessions at our Calgary location.
Our marketing team will handle filming, editing, and overall content production. This role is focused primarily on the sewing, demonstration, and on-camera presentation side of the content.
What We're Looking For
- Strong practical sewing skills and confidence using a domestic sewing machine.
- Several years of sewing experience, whether professionally or as an experienced hobbyist.
- Comfortable speaking and demonstrating techniques in front of a camera.
- Able to explain sewing concepts clearly without sounding overly scripted.
- Friendly, approachable, and confident communication style.
- Comfortable taking direction and repeating demonstrations or explanations when needed during filming.
- Reliable and able to attend scheduled filming sessions in Calgary.
- Interested in learning about specialty threads and their different applications.
Experience in one or more of the following would be especially valuable:
- Quilting
- Garment sewing
- Machine embroidery
- Free-motion quilting
- Appliqué
- Serging / overlocking
- Decorative sewing
- Sewing instruction or education
Previous professional on-camera experience is not required. Teaching experience is also an asset but not necessary if you are comfortable explaining what you're doing as you sew.
Freelance Details
- This is a freelance / independent contract opportunity rather than a full-time employee position.
- Filming will take place in person at WonderFil's Calgary location.
- Work will be scheduled on a project or filming-session basis.
- Scheduling will be arranged in advance based on upcoming content needs and mutual availability.
- There is potential for ongoing freelance work for the right person.
- Compensation will be based on experience, preparation requirements, and the scope of each project or filming session.
