Our Division & Communities

Foothills School Division (FSD) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12. We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable teacher to join a multidisciplinary team supporting a student with highly complex needs. This is a unique teaching opportunity that requires an educator who is committed to building meaningful relationships, creating a safe and supportive learning environment, and developing educational programming that responds to the student’s individual strengths and needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a robust understanding of trauma-informed, relationship-based, and neurodevelopmentally appropriate practices,



with an ability to understand behaviour as a form of communication and respond proactively and effectively to the student’s needs The educational setting for this position may vary and will require the successful candidate to demonstrate flexibility, consistency, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively across environments within a multidisciplinary team.

The primary focus of the position will be to provide a developmentally appropriate educational program while supporting the student’s growth and participation in the following areas:

- Safety and risk reduction
- Sensory and emotional regulation
- Functional communication
- Social and relationship development
- Functional and adaptive skill development
- Participation and engagement in educational programming
- Development of independence and executive functioning skills

Position Requirements The successful candidate will work closely with education, home, and community-based team members to ensure that strategies and supports are implemented consistently across settings. This position is well suited to an educator who is creative, reflective, collaborative, patient, and committed to seeing the student’s strengths and potential while maintaining high expectations for meaningful participation and growth.

Minimum position requirements include

- Bachelor of Education (with specialization in special education preferred)
- Additional training in the areas of trauma-informed practices and positive behaviour supports
- Prior experience working with highly complex students
