Student Volunteer Opportunity: Accessibility Ambassador for Accessibility Services
Accessibility Services is a department that specializes in providing support, advocacy, and academic accommodations to students with disabilities or persistent and prolonged conditions. We work with students to address individual barriers to learning and access.
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate student volunteers to serve as Accessibility Ambassadors. In this volunteer role, students will raise awareness of Accessibility Services around campus, decrease stigma and disclosure concerns, and contribute to our inclusive and equitable campus. By sharing accessibility related knowledge and services, your support will contribute to creating a protected environment where students feel empowered to access the support they need to succeed academically and personally, irrespective of their barriers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Accessibility Services and share knowledge with students with accessibility needs in various academic and campus life activities, i.e., campus events, outreach, and peer support;
- Participate in training sessions provided by Accessibility Services to enhance knowledge and understanding of disabilities and academic accommodations;
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student’s personal information;
- Assist with orientation, training and workshops delivered by Accessibility Services;
- Promote and raise awareness of Accessibility Services,
i.e., who we are, what we do, when and how to connect;
- Participate in planning and delivering awareness campaigns or events focused on disability awareness, destigmatization, accessibility and inclusion.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Students must have completed at least one full term of study at UCW.
- Students must have at least two terms of study remaining.
- Students must be in good academic standing (CGPA: graduate 3.00, undergraduate 2.0).
Knowledge, Skills/Abilities, Attitudes:
- Interest and passion for creating an equitable and inclusive campus;
- Basic technological proficiency;
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate empathetically with students with diverse learning needs;
- Punctual and dependable;
- A positive attitude in addressing challenges and solving problems.
Compensation: This is an unpaid student volunteer position. However, a $500 honorarium will be granted towards the tuition of the successful program ambassadors at the end of each term served. References can also be provided upon request to program ambassadors.
