The Opportunity – Junior High Success Coach The Junior High Success Coach supports students in Calgary Board of Education junior high schools to improve attendance, school engagement, wellbeing, and readiness for high school. The role builds trusted relationships with students and families, identifies barriers early, and coordinates practical supports that help students stay connected to school and community. Working closely with school teams, caregivers, and community partners, the Success Coach provides strengths-based, trauma-informed case management, family support, crisis response, resource navigation, and transition planning for students who need additional support to succeed.

Responsibilities

Student Support

- Build trusted, consistent relationships with students using strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
- Support students experiencing challenges that affect attendance, school engagement, or overall wellbeing.
- Help students identify goals and build the skills, confidence, and supports needed to attend and engage successfully in school.
- Provide timely support when students are experiencing periods of challenge or change.

School Partnership and Planning
- Work collaboratively with school staff to identify and respond to student needs.
- Actively participate in student support and planning meetings.
- Contribute to coordinated plans that promote student success and wellbeing.
- Help connect school teams with community resources and expertise.
- Support school-wide efforts that foster belonging, wellbeing, and positive school culture.
- Work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff to address barriers to school attendance.

Family and Community Connection
- Engage caregivers and natural supports as partners in student success.
- Support families to access services and resources that help reduce barriers to success.
- Strengthen connections between home, school, and community supports.
- Collaborate with Trellis internal programs and staff as well as community partners to ensure coordinated support for youth and families.

Case Management,



Transition, and Administration
- Provide case management support for students facing complex barriers to school success.
- Organize and facilitate case team meetings with students, families, school staff and community partners to develop and implement coordinate support plans that address barriers and promote positive outcomes
- Coordinate referrals, intakes, develop service plans, monitor progress, and maintain appropriate follow-up.
- Complete required documentation and outcome tracking.
- Coordinate targeted support that reflect the unique strengths, identities, and experiences of students and families.
- Support Grade 9 students and families with transition planning and connection to high school supports.

Growth, Development & Culture
- Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and learning-focused team environment.
- Participate in supervision, training, evaluation, and professional development opportunities.
- Champion Trellis values and demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, belonging, and continuous learning.
- Contribute to program development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge & Experience Expectations
- Degree or diploma in a related human services field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Three to five years of experience supporting children, youth, and families in community, school, or social service settings.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, trauma-informed practice, family systems, school engagement, and community resources.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently while building solid partnerships with students, families, schools, and community stakeholders.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Intervention Record Check, valid Alberta Driver's License, and access to a reliable vehicle.

Reporting Relationship This position reports to the Manager, All In For Youth – Junior High.
