Salary Range
The salary range for this position is CAD $32.39 - $32.39 / hour
Detailed Overview
Responsible for supervising more than ten designated staff and performing related accounting duties such as the preparation of cheques for accounts payable and payroll; performs financial statement preparation and complex account reconciliations, as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and directs the work flow of designated staff by scheduling and coordinating employee work assignments, evaluating employee performance, providing relief coverage and work direction and determining related employee training and orientation requirements.
- Reviews general ledger transactions generated and posted by the department including those uploaded from other systems by using appropriate internal control procedures to ensure the accuracy and timely reporting of financial results in accordance with reporting deadlines.
- Analyzes designated sub-ledger accounts by reviewing, extracting and interpreting source documents and identifying differences; performs account analysis to trace reason (s) for the differences/discrepancies, prepares adjusting information and reports such as vouchers and credit notes; takes corrective action and refers difficult situations to the Coordinator, Treasury as required.
- Assists with the annual and periodic audits and financial statement preparation including complex reconciliation of the assigned ledger accounts, general bank account statements and working papers; records revenue and receivable transactions in appropriate journals; posts entries to ensure accurate recording in the General Ledger.
- Reviews and processes the weekly, bi-weekly, demand cheques,
electronic payments and/or files for items such as payroll, accounts payable, pre-approved payments, pension remittances, tax payments and self-pay benefits; writes cheques, reviews electronic payments to the bank. reviews reports sent in response, approves related reports and releases cheques and/or processes electronic payments, as per established procedures; oversees electronic error correction requests as required.
- Selects accounts collection action and prepares collection listings and supporting documentation to transfer delinquent accounts to collection agencies; maintains collections files, advises collection agencies of payments and queries and provides additional information, as required; prepares reports of delinquent accounts according to established procedures.
- Follows up on delinquent accounts by initiating and responding to correspondence and telephone contacts with patients, billing agencies and insurers; traces accounts by the post office and approves alternative pay arrangements or recommends account write-off.
- Assists designated staff with various account reconciliations and analysis, referring problem accounts to the Coordinator, Treasury as required.
- Processes requests for new purchase cards and/or changes to existing purchase cards,
as per established procedures.
- Maintains accounting system application modules by recommending changes and/or enhancements; provides user support for related applications; investigate and resolves application problems and refers complex problems to the Coordinator, Treasury.
- Monitors and ensures employee adherence to departmental policies and procedures; recommends changes to existing accounting policies and procedures, where needed; implements approved changes, as directed.
- Maintains custody of the master vault, protected combinations and keys according to established procedures to ensure access to valuables is restricted and loss is minimised; supervises custody of patient valuables for safekeeping ensuring all transactions are properly recorded to ensure loss to Fraser Health is minimized.
- Assists with the gathering, compiling, and summarizing financial information regarding cash flow from various sources; completes appropriate payroll records and performs timekeeping duties for the Treasury department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Grade 12, completion of two (2) years of a CPA program and four (4) years' recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
