We're a well-established optometry clinic in St. John's providing comprehensive eye care and eyewear to patients of all ages. Our office is small, busy, and team-oriented, with an in-house finishing lab so we can handle everything from the eye exam to the finished pair of glasses under one roof.

About the Role

We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented person to join our team as an Optometric Assistant. No previous optical or medical experience is required — full on-the-job training is provided. If you're mechanically inclined, comfortable with people, and willing to learn, we'll teach you the rest.

This is a hands-on role that splits between working directly with patients in the clinic and working with your hands in our lab.

What You'll Do

Clinical & Patient Care
Greet patients, book and confirm appointments, and manage patient records
Perform pre-testing and diagnostic imaging prior to the doctor's exam (training provided)
Assist patients and explain lens options and coatings
Take and verify measurements for eyeglass fittings
Answer phones, handle billing and insurance submissions

Optical Lab
Edge and finish lenses to fit patient frames using our in-house equipment




Verify finished eyewear against the prescription using a lensometer
Adjust, repair, and dispense glasses to patients
Order lenses and frames, receive stock, and maintain lab equipment

What We're Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong attention to detail and valuable manual dexterity — lab work requires precision
Comfortable and qualified with the public, including seniors and children
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn our practice management software
Dependable, punctual, and able to work well in a small team
Ability to stand, sit, and work at a bench for extended periods
