Field Survey Technician

Job Overview

- We are seeking an experienced Field Survey Technician to join a growing land surveying and geomatics team in Delta, BC.

- This is an experienced field position suited to someone with several years of field surveying experience who can operate survey equipment independently, lead a small crew, and make sound decisions on site.

- The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, cadastral surveying, construction layout, and topographic surveys.

- This role also provides an opportunity to develop further expertise in legal surveying and computational work.

Key Responsibilities

- Independently operate GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, and digital levels.

- Lead a small field crew, including directing an assistant and organizing daily site activities.

- Perform cadastral fieldwork, including monument searches, recovery, and condition assessments.

- Read and interpret legal survey plans, cadastral records, field notes, and site drawings.

- Conduct construction layout, verification, and topographic surveys.

- Complete field calculations, checks, and quality-control procedures before leaving the site.

- Identify discrepancies and resolve field issues appropriately.

- Maintain accurate field notes and documentation in accordance with company QA/QC standards.

- Export, upload, organize, and file field data following established procedures.

- Coordinate with Party Chiefs, Project Managers,



and CAD staff regarding project requirements and deliverables.

- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and perform routine checks on assigned survey equipment.

- Support and mentor Assistant Survey Technicians.

- Follow established procedures and safety requirements for all field survey activities.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma or certificate in Geomatics, Surveying Technology, or a related discipline.

- 3+ years of field surveying experience; 2+ years considered for qualified candidates.

- Demonstrated ability to independently operate GNSS and robotic total stations.

- Experience reading and interpreting legal survey plans and cadastral records.

- Understanding of survey evidence, monumentation, and not-found searches.

- Solid field computation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

- Valid B.C. driver's licence with a clean driving record.

- Ability to work outdoors, on foot, in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate field documentation.

Preferred / Asset Qualifications

- Experience with any of the following is considered an asset:

- MicroSurvey Infinity

- Leica Captivate

- AutoCAD

- Civil 3D

- RPAS/drone surveying and mapping

- Scanning and point-cloud technologies

- Higher-order survey control networks

- Progress toward LST or professional registration
