EngCon Holdings Ltd. is looking for a Survey Technologist to join our team. Formed in 1979, EngCon is a well established Water & Sewer Contractor in the Edmonton area. We offer an excellent compensation/benefit package and foster a culture of promoting from within.
This position will support our field operations and project management teams, with a strong focus on GPS machine control, drone surveying, quantity verification, and collection and management of as-built information. The successful candidate will spend time both in the field and working with survey data to support our construction projects.
We are looking for someone who is technically capable, organized, comfortable working independently, and interested in being closely involved with active civil construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and support GPS machine control systems for excavators, dozers, graders, and other construction equipment.
- Prepare, load, and manage machine control models and project files.
- Perform field surveys to verify existing conditions, grades, elevations, and completed work.
- Collect and maintain accurate as-built information for underground utilities and other civil infrastructure.
- Complete quantity verification, including earthworks, and other construction quantities.
- Conduct drone flights for site mapping, progress tracking, quantity calculations, and project documentation.
- Process and manage drone survey information using Propeller.
- Assist with construction layout when required, including underground utilities and surface infrastructure.
- Establish, verify, and maintain survey control on active construction sites.
- Review construction drawings, grading plans, profiles, and digital design information.
- Assist project managers and field supervision with measurements, quantities,
progress information, and survey-related questions.
- Identify discrepancies between field conditions, machine control models, and design information and communicate them to the project team.
- Maintain organized survey records and information for project closeout and preparation of record drawings.
- Support multiple active projects throughout the Edmonton region.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience creating, managing, or troubleshooting GPS machine control files and models is considered a strong asset.
- Experience operating drones for construction surveying and mapping.
- Familiarity with Propeller or similar drone mapping and quantity platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, profiles, grading plans, and specifications.
- Strong understanding of elevations, grades, coordinates, surfaces, and construction tolerances.
- Experience with quantity calculations and verification.
- Knowledge or experience in water and sewer construction is considered an asset.
- Strong computer and data-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with project managers, superintendents, foremen, operators, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Ability to travel between construction sites throughout the Edmonton region.
