Overview
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Sushi Chef to join our vibrant culinary team. In this role, you will craft authentic and visually stunning sushi dishes that delight our guests and elevate their dining experience. Your expertise in sushi preparation, attention to detail, and commitment to quality will be essential in creating a memorable culinary journey.
This is a paid part‑time position, requiring 4‑20 hours per week, with weekend availability required. It offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary artistry while working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment dedicated to excellence.
Duties
- Prepare a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese‑inspired dishes with precision and artistry.
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in all food preparation areas.
- Source and select fresh ingredients, ensuring quality and sustainability in every dish.
- Collaborate with the supervisor to ensure timely order delivery while maintaining quality.
- Engage with guests when appropriate, sharing knowledge about sushi ingredients and preparation methods.
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Food Handlers Certificate.
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or similar role in a kitchen environment.
- Strong knowledge of sushi techniques, knife skills, and Japanese cuisine traditions.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a rapid‑paced setting while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude that fosters teamwork and guest satisfaction.
- Commitment to food safety standards and continuous learning in culinary arts.
- Strictly adhere to food safety standards (e.g., HACCP) and keep workstations, knives, and storage areas clean and organized.
- Accurately manage ingredient usage, assist the Head Chef with receiving and inventory control, and minimize waste.
- Properly maintain sushi knives and kitchen equipment.
- Solid knife skills and knowledge of handling various raw fish.
- Quick learner with the ability to master basic sushi preparation techniques efficiently within a short period.
- Open‑kitchen (exposure to guests) experience is a plus.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Licence/Certification
- Food Handler Certification (preferred)
