Overview
Build North is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Clerk to support our accounting and project administration team. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting functions with a focus on construction accounting processes, including invoice processing, job cost tracking, subcontractor documentation, and financial record maintenance.
Responsibilities
Assist with construction job costing and project-related accounting activities
Maintain subcontractor files, insurance certificates, and WSIB documentation
Reconcile bank statements, credit cards, and supplier accounts
Knowledge of payroll data entry and employee expense tracking
Monitor and track project budgets, committed costs, and change orders
Support month-end and year-end accounting procedures payroll processing, T4 summaries, WSIB reporting and reconciliations, and preparation of journal entries
Maintain organized financial and project records in both digital and physical formats
Assist with the preparation of financial reports and internal documentation
Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and internal staff regarding accounting matters
Manage and administer the employee benefits program
Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
Experience with construction accounting principles, including job costing and progress billing
Proficiency with Sage 100 Contractor/Sage 100 accounting software is an asset
Robust knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a rapid-paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a team workplace
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with contractors, subcontractors, and construction project documentation
Knowledge of Ontario construction industry processes and terminology
Familiarity with lien holdbacks, progress draws, and construction-related accounting procedures
